Have you personally taken part in the 50501 protests and do you intend to do so in the future?

The 50501 movement finally reached my small hometown on April 5th, a day when I was unfortunately dealing with a family emergency. I did get a chance to drive by the park where they were gathered and it was actually a pretty sizable protest for a county where 70% of the people voted for Trump. More sizable, in fact, than other local protests I’ve attended (BLM and the fight against Kasich’s union busting) and comparable in size to our annual Pride event. And I’ve been told by friends who were there that, surprisingly, they received very little pushback from the community.

They are planning another round of protests for this Saturday, April 19th and this time I plan to be there. Do you?

No, but I can justify not being on the street. I work in public defense, helping out, among my many clients, low income individuals and individuals who are undocumented. I feel as though I fight the fight every day, and I’m comfortable with my contribution.

That said, my significant other is out there all the time for every protest. She doesn’t have a similar career but this is how she gives back. I support it fully and think it’s awesome!

The fight has a thousand fronts, and it’s a great thing to fight it on whatever front you can

Ill start by saying I support protesting and I generally support the goals of most of these protests. That said, I don’t trust the 50501 movement at all.

All of the accounts pushing it in my state sub and neighboring states have all been either brand new profiles, or old accounts that just “woke up” and started spamming these protests. When questioned about the behavior you’re met with a downvote brigade and accounts coming out of the wood works all with the same fake backstory claiming to be “real”. This sketchy and dishonest behavior really doesn’t inspire confidence in this group for me personally.
