HDL too much of a good thing?

r/

I’ve always had good HDL. But in the last year, every test, the number keeps increasing. Today’s measurement was 118. Is there a point where too much HDL is a bad thing? LDL was 90 and triglycerides were 48 (up from 28 last time).

Think this might be better for a medical advice subreddit that has a higher concentration of medical professionals to answer this for you. Not a bunch of random >30 dudes who may or may not have a relatable issue.

You were tested, I’m assuming at a medical facility. Ask your doctor. But yes, there is such a thing as too much HDL.

It’s probably fine. Depends on your LDL. A high HDL will offset and high LDL and keep you off statins.

What is your LDL level? It is important

LDL level is too high. You must take lipitor drug to reduce it ASAP. This drug is pretty cheap

My dad is a cardiologist and everything he’s told me is basically that HDL can’t really ever be too high and LDL could basically always be lower. Neonates and hunter gatherers have LDL of like 35 so really optimal might be quite low.

But you can look up the guidelines yourself. Per those your values are excellent.

Hypothyroidism can increase this significantly. My lipid levels actually seem to be a leading indicator of my thyroid levels (I have been on levo for years).

Exercise, red wine, omega 3s, bunch of other stuff can increase it.
