I need advice and don’t know what to do. I work in a very small business. A colleague/friend called on Friday saying they had COVID meaning I was the only staff member left to cover. I had to cancel my plans and come into work. That’s how little staff we have. I had a feeling in my gut that something wasn’t right. I look on her Instagram to see and checked if she was tagged in anything. Her friend has a story up of them out at a concert. She said she will be out for the next five days due to COVID and not wanting to get anyone else sick. She isn’t even in the country. I’m stuck if I tell my boss or not. Please someone give me advice on what to do. This almost exact same thing happened a year and a half ago and that staff member just never showed up again. I’m really upset by this as I thought this person had become a friend and I am there manager. Don’t know if that changes anything.

Make a copy of that post and leave laying around to be found cut off your ip address that way you didn’t tell
Clearly you need more staff if 1 person calling in, even if it was a lie, creates this much hardship. You should go tell your boss they need to hire another person. Personally if this is the first time this has happened with her let it slide or blackmail her but snitching is only gonna make your own job harder. If she doesn’t get fired she’ll be pissed at you and make life miserable at work, if she is fired…well guess you are working all the shifts.
Does it really matter if she’ll know that it’s you? Do you really give her that much power of your life? It’s not the first time and won’t be the last so it’s up to you to decide how your future will be
