Owning your own home is supposed to be the ultimate dream. You get to decorate how you want, build your own sanctuary, and finally escape the nightmare of annoying landlords. But sometimes the real nightmare is not the person collecting your rent. Sometimes the absolute worst part of homeownership is dealing with wildly entitled neighbors who think boundaries simply do not apply to them. One woman recently took to Reddit to share a deeply satisfying story of neighborhood justice, and the sheer audacity of the people living downstairs is actually mind blowing.
The Original Poster recently moved to a new city and initially rented a second floor apartment on a month to month contract. She needed a temporary place to stay while she hunted for a permanent home to buy. Just a couple of months into her lease, the owner casually mentioned that she was putting the apartment on the market and needed to start scheduling showings. The Original Poster saw a golden opportunity, made an offer, and officially became the owner of her very own apartment less than two weeks later.
The building layout is incredibly important to this story. The Original Poster lives on the second floor, while the first floor is owned by a family consisting of a mother, a father, and two teenage boys. The ground floor has two separate garages, and the roof is split right down the middle into two separate spaces divided by a massive eight foot wall. Being a good and polite neighbor, the Original Poster baked some cookies and knocked on the downstairs door to ask for their schedule. She was planning to renovate her kitchen and bathroom and wanted to make sure the construction noise would not bother them. But while standing on her balcony later that day, she overheard the downstairs husband bitterly complaining about her. Apparently, the downstairs family had been planning to buy the second floor apartment for themselves, but she completely beat them to the punch.
Despite the weird energy from downstairs, the Original Poster went about her business and created an absolute oasis. She spent a couple of months transforming her half of the roof into a gorgeous garden. She built raised beds for her vegetables, set up beautiful flower pots, and added some nice outdoor furniture and wooden tiles. One day, she ran into the downstairs neighbor, who asked if she and her teenage sons could see the new rooftop setup. The Original Poster proudly showed off her hard work and figured that would be the end of the interaction.

Almost immediately after that little tour, things started getting weird. The Original Poster started noticing that some of her prized flowers were being cut and her outdoor furniture was being moved around while she was not home. Unwilling to let someone ruin her personal sanctuary, she installed a security camera. The footage revealed exactly what was happening. The teenage sons from downstairs were actively jumping over the eight foot dividing wall, bringing their friends, and treating her private rooftop like their own personal hangout spot.
Instead of immediately calling the police, the Original Poster tried to handle things like a rational adult. she went straight to the parents, informed them about the trespassing, and asked them to make their kids stop. She even explained the massive safety hazard involved. She is rarely home, and her rooftop is secured by a heavy metal door with a huge padlock. If one of those kids got hurt while jumping the wall, emergency services would have a very hard time reaching them.
The parents completely brushed her off with a careless okay. Unsurprisingly, the teenage boys did not stop jumping the wall. In fact, their behavior completely escalated. Because the Original Poster had the nerve to tell on them, the teens started actively destroying her plants out of pure spite. They were intentionally vandalizing her property just because she asked them to respect a literal eight foot boundary wall.
Having reached her absolute limit, the Original Poster marched back downstairs and delivered a firm ultimatum. She told the mother that the kids either stop trespassing immediately, or she would be calling the police. Instead of parenting her delinquent children, the mother actually scoffed in the Original Poster’s face and called her an entitled b!tch. That was a massive mistake.
The very next time the Original Poster got a motion alert on her phone from the rooftop camera, she did not hesitate. She picked up her phone, called the cops, and reported an active break in on her property. The police arrived incredibly fast. While one of the trespassing teens managed to escape the scene, the other was caught completely red handed by law enforcement and immediately hauled off to the local precinct.
The downstairs father completely lost his mind. He ran upstairs, practically tried to break down the Original Poster’s door, and started screaming at her to come to the station and drop the charges. The Original Poster simply threatened to call the cops on him for harassment and peacefully went to bed. She enjoyed a full night of sleep while the entitled teenager spent the entire night sitting in a jail cell.

The very next morning, the Original Poster strolled into the precinct and officially dropped the charges. The mother of the teenager was absolutely furious, complaining loudly that her precious son was forced to spend the night locked up with drug dealers and thugs. The Original Poster felt completely justified in her actions, knowing she had successfully taught the kid that actions have very real, very uncomfortable consequences. However, her own mother chimed in, claiming the punishment was way too harsh and that she only really punished the parents.
The internet unanimously disagreed with the mother and completely rallied behind the Original Poster. She is absolutely not the villain in this story. She tried baking cookies, she tried using her words, and she tried warning the parents. The neighbors ignored every single polite request and chose to insult her instead. You do not get to call someone an entitled b!tch and then cry when they use the legal system to protect their property. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
