Hey men, what are your best products for good sleep?

r/

Preferably not sleeping pills or supplements. I’m asking more along the lines of specific mattress or pillows or using a humidifier or things like that.

Resmed CPAP. The shit I could have accomplished if I woke up from age 12-38 the way I have for the past 4.

  3. Bullmoose-Jackson Avatar

Blackout curtains, but the best thing for a good sleep isn’t a product. It’s not staying up past your bedtime and screwing up your sleep cycle.

  4. Oreofinger Avatar

As a heavy ass dude, purple mattress and the pillow it came with dude me right, other things just fold to me and I wake up in a crater

  5. BobDylanBlues Avatar

Got a Saatva luxury firm mattress about 10 years ago, replaced it at about 8 years with another Saatva. I look forward to getting into that bed every night. Pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Edit: as another commenter mentioned, I have blackout curtains too. No TV in the bedroom. No music, no noise to whatever extent possible.

  6. adiksaya Avatar

I completely agree that basic sleep hygiene is first and foremost- off electronics an hour before bedtime, regular sleep cycle, etc.

From a product perspective I loved the pillow I got from Pillowise – they actually measure you and size the pillow appropriately. Disclaimer- not involved with the company in any way except as a customer.

Magnesium daily and melatonin as needed. I didn’t read your text until after I responded. But I still stand by my answer lol

  8. serene_brutality Avatar

A lot of people don’t sleep well because they get mentally tired but not physically. They’re not active enough.

  9. Not_Sure__Camacho Avatar

Optimum Nutrition Casein protein or ZMA supplements, but you have to buy the right ZMA supplements.  Cellocor used to make some great stuff, but stopped (The ZMA is great even though you said no supplements,  it really helps).

  10. caktz Avatar

Gym (I know this is not what you are asking for but I just wanted to say that it helped me a lot to sleep better the more tired I get = easier for me to sleep)

  11. Far-Potential3634 Avatar

I have a white noise machine I have used. That’s alright. Lately I’ve been leaving a radio on.

I’ve tried a bunch of pillows and honestly none are perfect but too thin or too soft are issues for me.

I have a bunch of back/neck massage/alignment things I have used over the years and some of those are real gems and I think contribute to better sleep when I use them regularly.

  12. HeliosVanquish Avatar

Aireloom mattress at my primary residence. Purple mattress at my lake house.

Magnesium L-threonate (Neuro-Mag) will knock me out and give me wild dreams, but that stuff will make me sleep through an artillery barrage.

  13. UawDawg230 Avatar

Some OG Indica vape or flower and some ocean waves sounds through the night off youtube !!!! 💤 💨 💨

  21. OsteoArcade Avatar

Unfortunately melatonin to wind down and coffee to rev up and sometimes neither work so you sorta just suffer forever

  22. SPRX97 Avatar

Earplugs and an eyemask. My wife got me a silk eyemask for Christmas one year and now my weakness is I can’t sleep without it.

Also the regular workouts others have mentioned.

  23. NixonGottaRawDeal Avatar

    Edibles and a CPAP

  24. AardvarkStriking256 Avatar

A sleep mask helps if you’re waking up with the sun and want to sleep longer.

  25. dg3548 Avatar

Gym for an hour and a half during the day and you’ll sleep like a 2 year old!

  26. fivefingerdiscourse Avatar

CPAP and a Chilipad to cool the mattress.

  27. onthebus69 Avatar

    Ambien and CPAP.

  28. Mroatcake1 Avatar

A fan pointed at your bonce at full tilt.. regardless of whether its -10C or +30c.

I think it’s more the white noise than the cooling effect.

  29. DFWPunk Avatar

Anything with various sleep sounds. Personally I like pink noise best.

  30. AlvinOn Avatar

I find eye mask and ear plugs to be most effective.
Also try this method, works for me every time:

    Strap in.
Fill your lungs and hold your breath for as long as you comfortably can.
SLOWLY breathe out, actively trying to empty your lungs.
Repeat a couple time until you feel relaxed.
Then just breathe slowly but normally, while counting your breaths,
    (In) One
    (Out) Two
    (In) Three
    (Out) Four
    Etc.

I’m usually completely out by count 10.
Give it a try, let me know.

  31. IceSmiley Avatar

5-10 mg of melatonin and 25-50 mg Benadryl. Also listen to a relaxing podcast when going to sleep, like nothing political or that can upset you

  32. All_or_nothing_baby Avatar

Sleep mask used to think it was girly then got a purple one with lavender been sleeping like a baby ever since and if you have long hair keeps the hair out of your eyes. Truly amazing

  33. Kaph- Avatar

High quality matress, like 5-6k $ matress. Totally worth it imo. We spend 8 hours a day in bed, its a worthwhile investment.

  34. TheZone92 Avatar

    Air conditioner

  35. HumunculiTzu Avatar

I’m a side sleeper and would get horrible neck pain if I didn’t fall asleep and stay exactly right all night. I got myself one of those expensive tempur-pedic side sleeper pillows and after learning how to use it, it has helped a lot.

Edit: This is the pillow. https://www.tempurpedic.com/shop-pillows/tempur-neck-pillow/v/572/ I tried a couple others but none really worked for me.

  36. westbalkan Avatar

Sweat is out every day. Sleep in dark, cold, quiet room, on Stearn & Fosters’ ultra firm mattress.

  37. Mecha_Butterfree Avatar

I got one of those adjustable beds so I raise my head up slightly, turn on the white noise machine (I usually use the brown noise setting or sometimes ocean waves), I set the bed to rumble and then put on my CPAP. Usually fall asleep within 5-10 mins.

Are you having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Because what prompted me to get checked for sleep apnea was the fact that I was basically snoring myself awake while trying to fall asleep. Made going to bed an absolute nightmare. No joke I was having trauma responses whenever I looked at my bed, that’s how bad my sleep was right before I got CPAP. Not saying sleep apnea is what is causing your sleep problems but I know I never bothered to get checked for a long time because I didn’t know what it was until my doctor told me to get checked.

  38. Background-Passion50 Avatar

I like it cold when I sleep. I have the air conditioning on even in the winter and usually a fan pointed right at my face. If I get home before sun set I’ll typically also put a beanie on as a way to block the sun from my eyes. TVs usually on also but, that depends. Sometimes I don’t bother it’s not a necessity nor do I care what’s on. I woke up one night and hellraiser was playing as the terrible blood curdling screams of whatever was going on tv accompanied me I stumbled into the bathroom to pee and then went back to bed.

  39. ginbooth Avatar

  42. sexisdivine Avatar

Reading a good book right before bed.

  43. deekfu Avatar

Get up early, exercise and go to bed at the same time daily. At least 30mins before bed, put phone away. Read a book, journal, think about your day today and tomorrow – whatever just no phone or electronics.

  44. Angry_GorillaBS Avatar

I’ve got things that help be sleep a little bit better-cool, neck pillow, specific blanket, etc-but I think I’ve had actual good sleep maybe 5 times in 30 years so I’m not sure I should be going into great detail lol

Melatonin knocks me out and CBN CBD products

  46. werewolf4money Avatar

Start turning most lights off or down an hour or two before bed

Cold dark room clean heavy sheets

    Cool gel pillow

Occasionally a magnesium glycinate capsule but not regularly, I don’t want it to be a habit.

  47. shazam7373 Avatar

Been struggling for years with sleep until I got chewable L-theanine tablets. 2 before bed and if I wake up in the middle of the night I have another 1/2.

Not Caffeine would be the best product. It’s in a majority of soft drinks, so it can be hard to miss.

I stopped with a diet and I’m fighting with my eyelids now. A good thing in that it hasn’t happened to me before, so it was welcome. Made me realize just how much caffeine I was taking in.

  54. Nuttadamus Avatar

Eating and drinking healthy, regular exercise, consistency on bedtimes, and finding a mattress and especially a pillow that works for you.

  55. megladaniel Avatar

    Audible sleep timer

  56. VampyreBassist Avatar

I use cushion lab cooling gel pillows, they have one for side sleepers that I like. I also use the sleep pod occasionally from Hug Sleep, but you need the right room for it. Like I can’t use it in a cold room because I’ll need a blanket and my body has no happy medium with it, temperature wise. But in the hot summer days it was perfect. Wouldn’t be hot but would still have the pressure I need for sleep. Plus there’s a pod for letting your feet out and one that comes with a hood if you like something over your head or sleep during the day, and one with both!

  57. gaxkang Avatar

    edibles.

Alternatively, working out helps. If you have body pain, acupuncture also works well.

  58. buttercupmercenary Avatar

Got a nova form mattress from Costco, been running 2 miles a day, haven’t been drinking and been sleeping like a dead whore

  59. reignoferror00 Avatar

Not late night snacking, especially of heavier food. I no longer drink coffee in the evening.

Have a fan close by the head of the bed for both air circulations and white noise.

Have a Liv Heart large size Shiba Inu body pillow.

I quite like the weighted blanket I picked up years ago. When I first got it I was like yuck what’s this shit? Get it off me! But as I grew used to it, it really helps me sleep through the night.

  64. chrisred244 Avatar

Gel migraine mask that you put in the fridge. Use it as a sleep mask and it’s rocks my world

  65. BearMethod Avatar

You jack it before bed? Really surprised I haven’t seen this yet.

  66. DarkSkyDad Avatar

Magnesium pills… good sleep at night, great poop in the morning!

  67. MIT_Engineer Avatar

Sleep mask and an ergonomic pillow. I use one that looks like this: https://www.tempurpedic.com/shop-pillows/tempur-neck-pillow/v/573/

  69. ifdggyjjk55uioojhgs Avatar

Nyquil makes some stuff called ZZZquil. It will put you on your azz. You need to be ready for bed before you take it. Because it works fast. It’s supposed to be non habit forming. But I only take it when I’m changing the shift I’m working. So I don’t know about the safety of daily use. I take about half the recommended amount and get a solid 8 hours of deep sleep.

  70. CoffeeQue01 Avatar

A good lecture or a podcast helps. Usually I’ll listen to warhammer 40k content until I fall asleep.

  71. pbebbs3 Avatar

    Less or no alcohol

  72. Janzillary Avatar

    Weighted blanket

  73. Sea-Flow-3437 Avatar

Earplugs imo but I’m a very very light sleeper

    Edit: also yoga.

  74. joshmcc92 Avatar

Breathe right strip’s have helped me. I would like to try those magnetic ones, they look nice.

  75. AskDerpyCat Avatar
    1. Go to bed at a consistent time every night (you don’t need to force yourself to sleep at the same time every night, but the go to bed part should be consistent)
    2. Keep your evening routine consistent almost every night and you’ll train your body to recognize when it’s bedtime and Pavlov yourself to sleep
    3. If you aren’t tired, you’re not gonna sleep. Do something else and try again when you are. You’ll be tired either way tomorrow at that point. So you can either make better use of your time now or be in denial and pretend to sleep until morning

Cooler bodies (core) sleep better. Breathable sheets. Get yourself some good bamboo/eucalyptus/silk sheets.

Warm extremities also helps. Maybe consider wearing socks to bed. Or at least a warm foot bath or something if you’re having trouble falling asleep.

  76. Snakebones Avatar

Regular exercise definitely makes it easier to shut down at the end of the day. And if you really push yourself in your workouts that sleep is DEEEEEP.

  77. SaysPooh Avatar

    Blackout curtains

  78. thetruelu Avatar

Foam earplugs and an eye mask

  79. LastOneSergeant Avatar

Sleep mask. I up voted and said it again for extra emphasis.

    They make a difference.

  80. Homely_Bonfire Avatar

Before looking at any products – don’t eat during the last 3 hours before you go to bed, don’t gurgle down a gallon of water before sleep so that you can sleep through the night undisturbed, have a regular sleeping pattern so your body can wind down based on the habit of for example hitting the hay by 10pm or so, actually sleep AT NIGHT, have a well ventilated bedroom, have it dark and not too hot.

Personally I have found all I needed were some better blankets – especially a thinner one during summer – and a pillow to put between my knees.

  81. RuprectGern Avatar
    • until this year i have never used a humidifier. now i cant stop. just bought an OTC Vicks cold mist humidifier. 1 tank lasts the night.
    • I use a navage before I go to bed. clean out the nostrils. I sleep pretty good this year.
    • Cool sheets – LL Bean Percale. ever since the wirecutter endorsed these 5/6 years ago i have been replacing all the sheets with these. the quality is great, the percale weave keeps you cool. I highly endorse these .
    • I also use a heated mattess pad in the winter. so much better than running the heat.

general rules i follow is to not have more than 1 cup of coffee and never after 11 am.

if i know I’m not feeling tired Ill take melatonin before bed. they relax you so you can sleep… its not a sleep inducer. but there’s no data one way or another as to efficacy. im fine with the placebo effect of relaxation.

all else fails, a late shower helps.

    • ear plugs (I use Alpines I also have for concerts & motorcycle)
    • some melatonin to fix my sleep schedule
    • water nearby, because I’ld rather hydrate than diedrate.

    Having kids.

I’m always so tired from work, kids, and house jobs that by the time I goto bed I’m asleep in minutes with no effort.

  89. Hungry_Wheel_1774 Avatar

Two things works perfectly for me. Not “product” but..
    – To sleep fast : I have a mp3 player, an audio that gives numbers and I have to make mental calculation…Like 57850 (10s pause) + 98203 (30 s pause) – solution.
I made the audio myself with excel random number and speech to text.
It works perfectly. Usually I lose track and sleep in less than 5 minutes.
    – To have a really good sleep…I noticed that if I read like only 5-15 minutes before sleeping…My sleep seems more profound, soothing. I recall my dream. Maybe it has to do with low light…I don’t know. But it works perfectly for me.
