I’m located in Seattle Washington, and I used to own a restaurant, and it caught on fire, and I thought I had insurance, because I told the agent I want 1mil insurance towards the restaurant. The agent instead got 1 mil insurance for injury and not the property. So technical I had no insurance for the place. And above our restaurant is apartments.
The final report from the police is that fire is cost by a cigarette. And this happened 2 hours before we even open. So it couldn’t been anyone who works in the restaurant. So since we are not at fault, why am I not getting my money back that I put in the restaurant, instead I had to keep paying the rent for it for almost 2 years.400k-500k loss. I am so confused, it was clearly had nothing to do with me

You would have to sue whoever is responsible for the fire.
You are renting from a landlord, and the landlord didn’t have insurance on his building? Your lease probably requires you to have insurance. Did the landlord ever verify that?
This is going to be very fact intensive, so I don’t know that Reddit is the place for answers.
For such a sum, you need to consult with an attorney.
