HOA president keeps locking down the park

We have a park in our neighborhood about the size of a football field. Our HOA dues go towards maintaining the park. A few months ago, one of the residents got elected HOA president. Since then, he has been working on the park nonstop. Like a bad contractor, he keeps dreaming up unnecessary “improvements” and pays himself an hourly salary to do them. Digging trenches, putting down tar over and over, ripping out blackberry bushes, etc. He mows the lawn so much that you can see China through a hole in the grass. All of this would be easy to shrug and ignore except for one thing. He keeps locking down the park for these improvements. I need access to the park for my kids. We pay dues for access to the park. Short of running for HOA president myself, which I have neither the time nor energy for, is there anything I can do?

You can get others who feel you do and find someone who does have the energy/time for HOA presidency.

You’ll need to participate in the meetings, explore your recourse through the charter, and gain community support to stop/oust him.

Do your bylaws outline any park privileges? You can start there.

Does the HOA Prez also control the checkbook?

Check your local laws. I don’t think a board member can pay themselves for doing work. Sounds very shady.
