Holding the door for someone who is still way across the parking lot doesn’t make you extra polite, it’s creates an awkward moment

r/

I get that people are trying to be nice, but there’s this weird moment when someone sees you coming and decides to hold the door even though you’re clearly way too far. Now you’re stuck doing that awkward half-jog just so they’re not standing there forever waiting for you.
It’s not really helpful, it just creates pressure.
There’s a reasonable distance where holding the door makes sense. But when people do it from too far away, it becomes this weird social performance where no one feels good. The person holding the door feels stuck, and the person approaching feels rushed and mildly guilty.
Just let the door close if someone’s not right behind you. It’s okay. Not everything has to be a moment of forced politeness.

Establish dominance, go towards a random car and make them feel like they wasted time.
