how common is it that you put “basic portuguese” in your resume?

r/

me and some people I know put basic spanish in our resumes to make it a little bit more impressive (I also took Spanish classes in high school, so I have a basic understanding of the language), i was wondering if some people from spanish speaking countries do the same with portuguese haha

I bet most of them don’t. It’s a very niche language (I love Portuguese, but its use is niche), what are they going to use it for?

Maybe this is a controversial take, but we Brazilians have more reason to learn Spanish than they have reasons to learn Portuguese, and it sucks how Spanish as a subject isn’t taken seriously in many schools here

Most Brazilians have basic Portuguese too, some can’t understand it very well

Never ever seen someone who doesn’t actually have basic portuguese lvl put it, here we are pretty far from any portuguese speaking country so basically no one knows “basic portuguese” nor is it rlly relevant tho

Portuguese is the second most learned language in Duolingo for the majority of Latam countries, but they probably just use it for online content

The only thing I’ve always lied in my resume are the name of the position I was in and the languages I speak. Always basic portuguese, French and Italian.
