How common is it to grow in height after age ~20?

r/

Hello, 39M here.

Just had my height measured and found that I’m 6’0.25”. The last time I had my height measured was around age 20, where I was 5’10.5”.

I know both figures are accurate because I was super insecure/disappointed about it back then and obsessively measured it several times, before eventually maturing and realizing it was unimportant and forgot about it.

Now, I had it measured the other day and didn’t believe it, so I measured it myself several times as well, even trying several different methods and measurement devices lol.

It is what it is and I’m a bit dumbfounded lol. I always heard that men finish growing by age 16-18. Has this happened to anyone else?

Pretty common for guys. I didn’t stop growing until I was 21

I grew a full inch between 18 and about 21-23 and didn’t even know it until a doctor appointment measured me as I checked in.

Though I also took a while to “mature” and even headway into my 40s I still look like 10 years younger than I am. So, maybe some of us are just slower.

i finished growing at 16-17 yet when i was 20-21 i started to notice that my shirts didnt fit anymore, i thought they were shrinking during washing but it turns out i grew like an inch extra.

honestly was a little mad at the time as i hated the idea of more growth spurts. (i was in pain during my teenage years due to growing in very fast but short increments) and disliked the idea of throwing out my nice clothes. (once you hit your 20’s, for the first time you throw out clothing because its used up rather than because you outgrow it)
