My parents have never let me go to MX because of safety reasons. I got family from one of the most dangerous parts of MX that got spooked going to the club in Colorado. How dangerous is LatAm in comparison to Latino hoods in the US like LA, Texas, Chicago? Stuff isn’t looking good out here in the US, just checking to see in case I need to bounce lol.

Fly to a safe part of Latin America I would choose as far away from The US border as possible.
Best of luck be safe peace.
How safe is the USA?
You could just look at (local) homicide statistics and whatnot. That should be an ok-ish indicator for stuff like that.
Besides that, I’ve never been to the US idk.
I don’t understand if you’re asking about Latin America or only about Mexico. It all depends on the country and the city.
Very regional just like everywhere else. Chile doesn’t seem very different from the US overall, though. Just use normal city safety etiquette. I’ve gotten away with not following basic safety in Valdivia (like walking alone at nght), but I can’t say people should.
Latam is a huge region, you need to be specific
Well, there are one or two places inside of Latin America so you’ll have to be more specific.
My bad y’all, Mexico would be the country that I’d consider moving to, but I am also curious to see how Latin America in general compares to the US. Seeing all perspectives is intriguing.
Just like in the US it depends a lot on the areas. Some cities have little crime rate (i.e Merida) while others are infested with crime (i.e Cali). Don’t know how “latino hoods” in the US are though so can’t help you with that
Ehh… I will say more petty crime, like pick pockets and purse snatching and what not, but much less violent gun crime. This is a generalization as the region is huge, but based on the countries I’ve spent the most time in (Peru, Bolivia and Argentina) vs the US I think it’s accurate.
Latin America is as a construct like saying europe.
It is not a single thing, is a mixture of cultures, countries, cities, economies, etc etc etc.
So your question sadly is like how safe is Europe.
Which country? Which city? Which neighborhood? Even, where are you asking this? Maybe this year there is a president who took terrible decitions and made the local economy orders of magnitude more expensive (Argentina) but if you asked last year with 1500usd you could maintain a family of 4.
So, there is no answer without being more precise, sorry.
Currently safer than the US, when not including geographical North America
I’m pretty sure the bad parts of MX are gonna be much much worse than any Latino hoods in the US. If you are Latino though, then I would be willing to bet that you might actually be safer in a dangerous area of MX than you would in a really bad all black hood in the US because of your ability to blend in. A lot of it has to do with how you move and knowing the rules though
It depends on the city/ region. Big cities are relatively safe just like most American cities. Petty crime and gang activity is also an issue like in the US but if you stay out of that world you should be fine in most cases. I’ve seen cartel drones before in the northern region of my state that borders Zacatecas and have obviously seen the news of crazy stuff happening in Jalisco but thankfully have never really had to deal with it myself. In Los Altos (the region I’m from) it’s small communities made up of ranchos and pueblos, and while you can sometimes tell someone is involved in something, if you keep to yourself you’ll be fine. In Guadalajara the cartel presence is more discrete and street thugs/ gangs is what is more apparent in some places. That being said there’s also places that are safe and don’t have issues like that and even very high class neighborhoods. I know people that live in places like Culiacán probably have had worse experiences however.
