How did you find out where you want to live?

I’m 30m and my wife is 27 we have a 7 month old. We moved from our decent sized city where we grew up to a small city. We commute to work an hr in opposite directions of each other for work. How did you find your home and where you wanted to live? Neither of us have much family but we are looking to find our “tribe”.
