Hi. I am curious on how people bring up hygiene with their partners and how to go around it, because I attempted to have a conversation and it essentially went no where. I love my girl, and I really don’t want to make her self conscious to where she won’t receive.
We’re each others first in terms of oral, and the first time I went down I noticed that there was a pretty strong ammonia scent that put me off a lot. The second time she wanted to freshen up but only washed the Labia outside. Regarding that, I’m curious on if the vulva is meant to be washed because she mentioned that she heard it’s bad for you, but I thought that was only if you wash the inner vaginal canal. The second time I tried, It smelt fine but when I went down properly, the ammonia smell was strong again and put me off quite bad, that I don’t feel too good after.
We were discussing each others scent and she asked how she was and if it was off putting and I hesitantly said no it wasn’t, because I prefer the pleasure over the scent but that I noticed an ammonia smell that put me off a bit and I don’t know if that’s normal or if I’m rude as it was my first time.
I really don’t know how to go about this or bring it up because we’re LDR and visit every 2-3 months. Please any tips or help would be appreciated 🙁 thanks so much.

If someone doesn’t smell pleasant, tell them. It’s not a kindness to lie. Be honest.
The vulva includes the labia. Anything external should be washed with water/a mild soap.
You should suggest showering together before sex, as a form of foreplay, and both wash down there. If she sees you doing it, or you doing it for her, she may then understand.
Not all women had a female figure growing up to tell them about how to wash their genitals, and it could just be a matter of being shown. Either way, it’ll be a cute idea, too.
It might not be a hygiene issue. Maybe you just don’t like the smell of vagina?
The ammonia smell could be BV. When I had BV, it smelled like that, not at all like fishy, but strong chemicals. Talk it over with her, that you suspect BV. Easy to resolve with treatment or boric acid
I wonder if she could have an infection that is causing the odour
I’ve had to be on the receiving end of conversation and it was totally embarrassing but I’m glad I was told. I tried a new soap (dove unscented bar soap) and make sure I’m extra thorough and I’ve also started to take PH balancing probiotic supplements which according to my partner, both changes have made a huge difference. Definitely be honest and Maybe make some suggestions on what they can try?
You’re putting in your face right to the place where people pee out of and you’re surprised that it smells like pee? Hm ok.
