When there tummies growls or it hurts
Honestly same, sometimes you just eat cuz you’re bored. Real hunger feels more like low energy or you can’t focus.
If you don’t feel the hunger then just figure out a schedule instead so you don’t have to rely on the signals
Routines. Set an alarm or whatever and try to eat within atleast an hour every day.. Then when it becomes a routine, you will get hungry around those times.
When I am working hard. I generally don’t eat. If I force myself to eat, I get more energy, but I just don’t have the drive to do so. If I eat too much and go back to working hard, then I am sluggish and usually get sick.
I think its a part of circadian rhythm
Well usually the body makes it very clear when you are supposed to eat. It’s how it goes for most people. If that doesn’t work for you, check in with a doctor to see if everything is alright and read up about it on the internet.
But other than that create a schedule where you eat at least 2 times a day. One around noon and one around early/mid evening.
i don’t know either. our body is so strong. there are days when i eat once and at the end of the day i think about how low energy i must have and i should pass out soon. but it never happens.
Intermittent Fast to re learn what hunger feels like and reset taste buds 24 hrs is a good start.
Either I feel empty inside, hunger pains (pangs?), or I just crave food. the last one is what gets me into trouble. sometimes I crave food because I’m hungry, and sometimes I’m just bored.
Ugh jealous. I have the other problem. My body doesn’t bother telling me when I should stop eating.
When your energy get sucked out towards your core. You really need to eat
I feel hungry, moody and dizzy and go oops got to eat.
This is super common amongst neurodivergent people. Your body’s cues that you are hungry, you are full, you have to go to the bathroom, you’re thirsty, etc are called interoception. You can improve your sense of interoception by practicing mindful breathing, yoga, and doing “body scans”. Sensory input can also be helpful.
If you can’t recognize the signals for when your body wants food (which is common among people with adhd or other neurodivergencies), the best advice I’ve got is this:
Grumbling in the stomach – eat soon. You’re getting hungry and your body is letting you know
Pain in the stomach that isn’t a cramp – eat NOW. You’re starving and the pain won’t go away and may even get worse until you do
Angry at the world for no reason – hangry. Eat soon. Even a light snack will help
Haven’t eaten in at least four hours – eat something small. (This is more for someone who has a more active or physical day to day life. Like a general laborer at work or someone running errands all day) You might not be hungry but it will keep your energy up
Hunger cues include a growling stomach, low energy, irritability, or cravings.
Could be a medical issue. As far as my knowledge goes most people can feel in their stomachs when they’re hungry. It makes noises, feels weird, some people even get easily mad, or frustrated. If you’re not getting any of the cues, I’d say like other commenters, go to speak with your doctor. Until then do like the comments said & make a schedule – 6-10am eat breakfast, 11-2pm eat lunch, & 5-8pm eat dinner. Adjust those times to line up with your lifestyle. Or you could whenever you see food just eat it. If your body takes it in without force then I’d say you’re hungry.
My body never shuts up about food. I’d love it if it would.
Weirdly, my appetite has recently dropped out from under me. I hate it. Hunger used to be such a wonderful cue of what to eat and when and how much.
So I’m sticking to habit, the same times as ever. Same amounts as ever. And I’m using some ayurveydic medicine (takra, ginger) to try to stoke that fire of my appetite again.
My clue that I’ve skipped a meal is that I get really really cold and just can’t get warm again until I’ve eaten.
I eat around the same time every day. Because of this I get hungry around the same time
You’re overthinking it.
We’re the product of 3 billion years of evolutionary experience with homeostasis. The signals are built in.
Are you hungry? Eat. Thirsty? Drink
Sounds like your stomach doesn’t start rumbling or anything. Just eat 2-3 times per day and don’t overthink it. Plenty of examples online of healthy meals. Eat something roughly within an hour of waking up, eat something at noon (most people do noon because that’s when most workplaces have break time). And then have dinner around 4- 5 o clockish. Any sort of combination like this and you should be fine, add a multivitamin in there somewhere for bonus points
Either when I’m hungry or at the times I’ve decided to eat (noon for lunch and 7 PM for dinner)
Ghrelin. The hunger hormone.
