I’m well over 40 and even when I was 40 I had little or no energy at all. I’m not sure who the 40 somethings are with so much energy? We’re exhausted by late 30s. Shitty job, lousy commute, meaningless existence. It’s exhausting.
Many of them worked for it. Like, had a good work-life balance but also purposefully sought higher-paying jobs/positions, and thus are less burnt out. Or they exercised/built good sleep and eating habits and thus are physically healthier than others.
Additionally, they might not be young any more, but they still have a reasonable amount of “body and mind still work okay,” unlike getting into one’s 60s, 70s, etc (depending on the person). Like they aren’t “youthful” but they don’t have aging-related health problems (yet) (for the most part).
And also plenty of people in their 40s ARE tired and/or burnedout.
I definitely don’t have the energy I used to – but I’m a lot better at doing more with less. One of the joys of being in your 40s is that you’ve learned how to do things the easy way, the hard way.
In my 20s, I had boundless energy, but a good 50% of the things I did, I did wrong. Now, in my 40s, I still do them wrong – but faster, and with a lot more confidence.
Because what other options are there? Roll up and die hell no still got tons of years left. It kind of matters how you treat your body as well. I work out all the time and I’m in very good shape. It took me about 20 years to get to a good level of success and knowing how the world works and knowing myself, basically for me, life is just about constantly evolving and enjoying it.
I run on caffeine and pure determination, working well over 50 hours most weeks, and keeping up with 4 kids. I don’t know what the people talking about work/life balance, exercise, and a good diet are on about, I just have people who need me more than I need sleep.

You should have seen them in their 20s
Because they aren’t in their 50’s. I found out when I hit 53 and my energy went bye bye. Still hasn’t cone back
They’re in their 40s, not their 90s.
