How do you cope knowing you hate your job?

r/

23F. I hate what I do. Every shift people are rude to me for things that aren’t my fault or are out of my control. I get racial slurs thrown at me because I won’t let them skip the queue. I can’t quit cause I have debts and bills and I don’t know what else to apply for; i don’t know what i’m interested in. I’m tired of going in everyday pretending everything’s ok,I don’t know how people work a job they hate. I’ve become a shell of myself, i’m borderline suicidal.

I burnt out because of this, looking for a new job while I am on sick leave (which is paid in my country luckily). If you don’t know what you are interested, do a job with little to 0 people interaction. Like back-office work or I even worked in a factory for a while. Often a bit braindead work but your emotional/mental load will feel so much better. And you can have more peace of mind and more motivation to look into what you actually wanna do and change jobs again later once you figure it out.

And there. I’m 13 years old. And I hate school. It’s almost the same thing you said there and I felt that way too. But I’m better, I felt sad but I talked to my guardians and they spent time with me and now I’m much happier. You may hate your job, you may feel alone. But it never will be, you can always count on someone, and even if you can’t, you can still do something to cheer yourself up, and if you no longer have any pleasure in doing what you like, I recommend you leave the house for a bit if possible. And stay away from the bad things in your life as much as you can. And PLEASE don’t tell people how you feel without knowing exactly who they are, sometimes they will judge you and won’t even care about solving your problems. Look for a psychologist and don’t kill yourself, please. And remember. You will never be alone! You will only be alone when EVERYONE forgets about you, otherwise you are not alone! I hope I helped in some way.

It’s time to start looking for other employment. Maybe consider two part time jobs to accommodate for the income where you’re at. Btw, it sounds horrible. You’ll learn something about yourself once you land somewhere better. Hang in there and remember there’s at least 1 asshole in every crowd. Your task is to not get shat on. Please don’t consider self harm.

You cope by letting go of what you can’t control, and doing your part for what you can control. You don’t only have two options, quit or continue. Look for a new job, it is ironically much easier to find another job while you are still employed. Then, when you get a new job offer, give you 2 weeks notice to your current job.

Every job becomes work, that’s why they pay you to do it. Instead of trying to find what you are interested in, find something you don’t hate, that is much less daunting than finding the perfect job.

The possibilities are not endless. Every state has an employment stats page where you can see what careers have projected good job growth, meaning there are and will be lots of jobs available. You can then filter those down to whatever income you need to live the life you want to live. Look at starting wage (what you’ll have to work at a few years) and median (what you can expect to make after you are established).

That list just got pretty small, didn’t it. Now cross off the jobs you think you would hate, google the jobs you don’t understand so you can make an informed decision on what you are likely to hate. You’ll be left with only a handful of options. Then research what each of those take to do. Pick one and do it, I suggest the one you can get into the cheapest and fastest.

Then live your new life in a job you don’t hate that provides for the life you want to live.

I manage because I’m working towards the job I really want. This isn’t my forever. It’s not going to be permanent because I’m going to change my path and forge the future and life I want. I acknowledge I’m in the shit days of my life because the best is yet to come.

I’m lucky because I know what I want to do. Explore your options my friend. Try new things, something might jump out at you like mine did. When you do find something, give it all you’ve got.

Every two weeks I get a reminder that they pay the bills until I find another company that will pay me more to hate my job the same.
