How do you feel about Senator Corey Booker on the floor of the Senate right now?

r/

I am so heartened, appreciative, and proud to hear that Senator Cory Booker is speaking to all the abuses and injustice that are being perpetuated by this disingenuous president and his reality-show-circus of an administration. What do you think?

I am as well. I am watching the numbers grow on youtube, bouncing between the AP and the PBS stream.

I now know why his significant other is well out of his league. He’s got lungs for days.

I’m wondering what more Cory Booker has to do to get people to spell his name properly.

I’m glad that he is doing something that gets noticed, and I’m glad he is communicating effectively. I’m also glad that he is getting credit for this.

…and I’m not sure it matters in the long run. Did Ted Cruz’s 21-hour filibuster matter? Even the longest filibuster (Strom Thurmond, 1957) didn’t accomplish anything.

This is a good act of protest. But, I know that he’s trying to set himself up for 2028, and I don’t know if running him would be a good idea.

We got bills, son, ain’t nobody got time for dat.

  8. elCharderino Avatar

If most Dems were doing this most of the time it would make such a significant impact in slowing down the Republican fascist takeover process to a crawl.

  9. MaggieMae68 Avatar

This is the kind of thing I was talking about in my “What do you want them to DO” post.

I’m thrilled and I hope he can keep going and break the record. And I hope bits and pieces get airplay EVERYWHERE.

  10. Temporal-Chroniton Avatar

It’s so refreshing to see one of them doing something.

  11. projexion_reflexion Avatar

I hope it’s part of his campaign to be the new minority leader, but I haven’t heard any rumblings of deposing Schumer.

  12. FoxyDean1 Avatar

Good. We need more of this. This right here? This is what we’ve been asking Dems in office to do and I can only hope that every Senator with a D by their name does this as often as they can for as long as they can.

  13. dangleicious13 Avatar

Is anything stopping Democrats from doing this just about every day that congress is in session?

  14. Connect_Surprise3137 Avatar

Very appreciative of this. More like this. I already liked him well enough.

  15. MiketheTzar Avatar

It stands as a shining example of why the filibuster is needed and why all of the people on the left who railed against it need to open a history book.

  16. redviiper Avatar

I am cheering for him to break Strom Thurmonds record.

  17. BigJSunshine Avatar

Invigorated, inspired, proud!! Not only is it that this fillibuster/our leaders are fighting back, He’s absolutely about destroying a shameful record made by s.thurmond whose intent was as racist as it was evil.

  18. Vegetable-Two-4644 Avatar

As a single act it’s useless. If this happened on a rotating schedule to completely stop congress from any and all action then it could be effective.

  19. curious_meerkat Avatar

The time for him to do this is when it would be blocking legislation the Republicans want to pass.

There is no business on the floor.

What he’s doing is performative and meaningless.

  20. Bhimtu Avatar

WORDS MEAN NOTHING. WE NEED ACTION.

  21. ThePensiveE Avatar

Finally someone in the Democratic party who understands attention is political capital.

  22. thatpj Avatar

seems like he is doing exactly what the “do something” crowd demanded. SPOILER: they are still going to be upset

  23. Square-Dragonfruit76 Avatar

    I very much approve

  24. Bitter-Battle-3577 Avatar

I respect it and it’s a sign of clear dissatisfaction with the current administration. No problem with that, though strategically speaking, it might’ve been better to have employed such techniques when the budget bill had to pass in the House of Representatives. It was an opportunity for the Dems to switch the tables on the Reps, while also appearing to build a spine.

All in all: Respect from a conservative and taking notes for the next Congress, where the Republicans are unfortunate enough to have a minority in either the House or the Senate.

  25. Dr_Scientist_ Avatar

It would be awesome if he had 40 people helping him.

Best thing a democratic senator has done so far.

  26. Probing-Cat-Paws Avatar

Sen. Booker is ten toes down and standing up for the people of the U.S.! I’m here for it! It gives him a platform to educate the public about what is going on right now. I hope he breaks Strom Thurmond’s record.

  27. nikdahl Avatar

I appreciate his efforts. I’ve been listening all day, for the last 6-7 hours. Honestly, he’s not taking aim at the right institutions. He’s just going up against trump with some elon, and not really taking the republican party to task, or capitalism itself, or even fascism. It’s been a whole lot of center-left from him, which is unfortunate, given the platform he has.

  28. -Franks-Freckles- Avatar

I’m happy. This has to be recorded, every word, will be added to our US History. We will never let them forget.

  29. 7figureipo Avatar

I think it’s a good start, and more democrats should be doing the same thing.

And more: they should obstruct proceedings even in committee meetings. And I don’t mean just yacking for a little while or objecting now and then to waste a minute or two. I mean being disruptive to the point that the Chair has to adjourn the meeting without any business being conducted. Get physical (not (necessarily) violent, mind) if needed, even. This isn’t politics as usual.

Booker shouldn’t cede the floor at all. In fact, other democrats should force the republicans to have them removed by force after their time expires. Like, some other Senator should take his place and prevent any business from occurring until the Republicans are forced to have the Sergeant at Arms eject them. And they should resist that, forcefully.

  30. 7evenCircles Avatar

Cool story. Not going to do anything. Go organize some actual protests.

  31. charleswarner24 Avatar

I’d say Booker is actually doing something while the rest of the Dems try to figure out which way is up

The Democratic Party is so sad They run against the worst candidate and can’t figure out how to message or how to win.

Cory may be the only hope

  32. highriskpomegranate Avatar

I think it’s badass. Cory Booker got that dog in him.

  33. BreezyMcSleezy Avatar

This should’ve been happening since day 1 and during all the secretary confirmations and during all the executive orders. He blocked zero pieces of legislation. Feels performative. Feels like too little too late.

  34. mcherm Avatar

Look, is this useful? Does it actually change any laws or even change the behavior of the Elon Musk / Donald Trump administration? Probably not.

But it is taking action. Public action. And it is getting at least some tiny bit of his message out.

If EVERYONE were doing something (not all a long speech… everyone can do their own thing) maybe it would make a difference. Maybe it would help save the Constitution.

Speaking of which, I hope to see other like-minded folks protesting this Saturday, April 5.

Booker is about to break Strom Thurman’s record for the length of a speech on the floor of the Senate. He’s been speaking about his memories of John Lewis for the past hour.

    Get em Corey. 😈

  38. SacluxGemini Avatar

I’m glad he’s doing this, but I fear it’ll be forgotten by the average swing voter as quickly as Signalgate was.

  39. obeythelaw2020 Avatar

As a born and raised New Jerseyan I’ve wondered why the party hasn’t asked more of Corey Booker. He is as charismatic as Obama was.

  40. atierney14 Avatar

I hope the “resistance” is less cringe than it was last time.

I think Booker gets what a lot of us don’t get. Most Americans aren’t evil, they’re just ignorant as fuck. The whole point of this was outreach. I remember Schumer asked a question and Booker straight up was like, “let’s not use Senate speech.”

What I’m saying is this was heroic. We have no path forward if we aren’t bold, and if we are not willing to tell all Americans, “join us.”

I am a little skeptical though because a lot of Americans aren’t super opposed and offended on Trump’s immigration policies or blatant imperialism.

I do think a lot of Americans just don’t get that he is breaking a lot of constitutional laws though, and Booker seemed to express that well.

  41. BusinessPlot Avatar

He’s already voted in favor of P2025 shit, so fuck him

  42. Helicase21 Avatar

I really do love that for all the (admirable) effort Senator Booker put in, it was immediately followed by absolutely zero objection to unanimous consent for the Trump nominee for NATO ambassador. Like did you guys learn nothing?

  43. Red_Dragon_DM Avatar

We asked our elected leaders to do something, anything, and this is a powerful something, a very good start. But still just a start.

  44. tonydiethelm Avatar

I think he’s not doing Jack Shit, but… I guess it’s better than nothing?

  45. triangularbox01 Avatar

He has inspired us. Corey Booker should run for presidential race, he will prevail

  46. Cynical_Classicist Avatar

It’s very public and is better than Schumer’s let’s give them what they want. And it beats that white supremacists record. Take that Strom Thurmond!
