As a Latina in the US I’ve gotten this a lot and it doesn’t offend me but I find it funny because im second gen and very Americanized … Like sure i can speak Spanish but there is absolutely nothing exotic about me lol
I had an experience where I didn’t really know how to think about it. I was wearing beaded Navajo earrings at my job and a coworker said they were so exotic. She started off saying they were cute and I said thank you! Then she said that and I went “Oh!” And she asked if that wasn’t okay to say, I felt like it was a little off? But not that bad, because she meant something good about it. I personally feel like native Americans should be normalized and acknowledged as they’re still present. Then again, I’m not Native American! I’ve also been called exotic looking, but that’s another story.

Witnessed this, not experienced it.
It’s something that older generations used to say. Or people who aren’t well-travelled. Or racists.
Kind of special because it’s a unique compliment in a way but also like, “bro…I’m white…ain’t nothing “exotic”’about me.” 🤣
I was called exotic for having sex with a black man as a white woman. It was weird

I always take it as a compliment.
People around me always tell me I look mixed (Hispanic or Middle Eastern).
I take it as a compliment for sure 🥰
Gives an ignorant vibe to the person giving the compliment. I know they mean well, but the probably pronounce the L’s in tortilla also
I liked it when I was young but now it feels kinda fetish y
