How do you go about maintaining a positive self image with today’s societal beauty standards and social media?

    Don’t look at social media.

I try not to go on social media and focus more on myself. My health is more important than beauty standards. If someone doesn’t like the way I look then so be it. Most of the time if a person doesn’t find me attractive, I don’t find them attractive either.

I don’t base my self worth or image on the opinion of others. I Love me for me.

I’ve grown up, got a good education and surrounded myself with great real people that make me feel loved and give me confidence.
Also I’ve never seen social media as something real, it has always felt fake to me. So some perfectly photoshopped influencers have never bothered me.

Limit social media, surround yourself with quality people, commit to improving yourself in a variety of ways (intellectually, physically, emotionally), make sure you’re speaking to yourself kindly because words matter.

Other attractive people existing has just never bothered or hurt me.

I think it goes back to having a healthy self-esteem since childhood and being taught by my mom that other girls being pretty too isn’t a threat to me or competition, it’s just a fact of life. And that you’re simply not always the main character or the best looking or most attention getting person in the room or in existence and so what?

Indifference. Social media is like TV commercials to me, all bullshit I don’t care about.

I remind myself that social media is not reality.

I unfollowed pretty much anything that doesn’t hold positive to me. I only follow nature and hobby groups. Anything related to looks is all body neutral and fun clothes not based on what “flatters”. There are still days that I struggle since so much was crammed down my throat growing up with diet culture. But, I accept that my body serves me and it’s more fun to just dress in things that make me feel like my true self.

Accept that I’m ugly and continue enjoying things I like. Art, video games, TTRPGs, human pathogenic parasites, bookbinding, all way more interesting to me anyway

Again, this question sounds like AI.

I don’t care about social media or other people’s standards.

I only read and post here and on Tumblr. I’ve been very happily married since I was 21 and my partner is rational and mature and he also doesn’t care about social media or value people only on the opinions of other immature people. So yeah.

Also I’ve pretty much healed my PTSD over the last decade with the help of escitalopram, so that helps the self-image. I don’t hate myself for being human anymore.

I don’t have any social media (besides reddit, I guess?), but I understand that the people online aren’t what most people look like
