I’m 17 and applied for my first job ever around a week ago. I have an interview tomorrow and was wondering what I should do to increase my chances of getting the positions, as it’s a pretty competitive job.
How do you make a good first impression at a job interview?

First impressions last, so dress well and look fit for the job.
Eye contact and a firm handshake. Also, helps to take an interest or find something in common with the interviewer and build that personal connection.
Make sure you don’t look desperate even if you are
Your demeanor should be a “I want this job but I am skilled enough to not care if you say no and look elsewhere”
Ask them “so what’s your management style?”
So they start chatting about how the office is run & sometimes they might laugh at each other if there’s multiple people interviewing you
Ask them what is the training like
No matter what even if you don’t know the answer, give them something that shows off how your brain processes questions.
Be honest if you don’t know it, they will appreciate that BUT give them a creative answer anyway of what you think it may be based on what you do know
Go in happy, golden retriever energy. Sometimes a happy under qualified guy gets the job over a better fitted person with low energy.
Team moral is a real thing
Relax. It’s your first job. The person doing the interview knows that. You’re not supposed to know anything. Nobody is expecting you to know anything. So don’t be worried that you’ll be asked questions you don’t know the answers to. An employer wants to SEE that you’re taking the job seriously and not just being forced by your parents to get a job. So dress well and make sure your overall appearance is clean. And just as important is showing your communication abilities. Which simply means, you listen well and speak clearly. Which in an interview means, you hear his questions and then provide a clear answer. Anything you have to fill out by hand, do your best to print nicely. Shake his hand when you first walk in and when you walk out. …….and remember all this. Because you’ll follow all these rules again when you meet your girlfriends dad
Problematic question as you have no idea at this point who they are looking for… i would advise to change your stance and start asking questions in the interview already knowing the 2-3 possible answers and morph the interview in to a fact finding mission.
Background research on the company (how they started, by who, why, in what country, why are they in your country, how did they get there), find staff reviews (this is a very good one, they will complain about something, note it down, it might well be the manger you end up working under).
Once there, check the washrooms, cheap soap?, no cooler water? shows they are not spending money to look after the staff, either by choice OR as they are no longer making enough money
As an example, if you read reviews about a bad manager, work the questions to find out who the manager is, its likely you wont want to work under him….
At the end of the interview they tend to ask you if you have any questions for them, try ask a couple questions to show you’re interested in the company/role, this will leave a good impression
Good luck !
Be confident, don’t lie about skills, sit up straight, use firm language (don’t um, ahh or use language that is not definitive)
