How do you respond when someone clearly shows interest in a social or party setting?

Hey , I recently went to an event and had a few awkward/difficult moments I am still thinking about. For context, I am 30 and I have spent most of my adult life in one long-term relationship and now that I am single, I am realizing I have no idea how to respond to signals in these types of situations. This thing has bothered me for quite some time, I feel too embarrassed asking advice from my friends.

At the event, I just had water, danced a bit, and kept things simple while my friends were doing other stuff. Some girls started approaching me. Some came and danced, made eye contact, couple of them started touching me or made compliments. I kept dancing because I didn’t know what to do next which was really awkward on my side.

I didn’t want to come off as creepy, so I just smiled, stayed respectful, and didn’t push anything. But in hindsight it felt like a missed chance to connect or at least enjoy the moment more. What do I do when girl clearly initiates? Should I say something, what? Touch her back?

I would appreciate any advice on what to do or what is “normal”.

How do you handle it when girls make the first move?

What is the right way to respond without being too passive but also not too pushy/creepy?

This is a genuine question. I am not trying to brag or anything. Just want to learn and get better at reading these situations now that I am single again.

Appreciate any thoughts.
