There’s conflict not far from where I live, and even though I’m technically safe for now, I feel on edge all the time. It’s like I’m waiting for something to go wrong. The news, the sirens, the tension, it all builds up. I can’t focus, I can’t sleep properly. How do you manage day-to-day life when war feels close?
How do you stay mentally stable when there’s a war happening near you?

My coping strategy for an impending crisis is: prepare any way I can. I’m fortunate enough to have no direct threat of war where I live but before COVID-lockdowns I knew they might be coming and I was prepared. I had food for weeks, toiletries for months, had sewn masks, had medication for a year, books, games, craft supplies etc. All before lockdowns were announced in my country. It gave me a sense of control and peace. I know it’s not the same and I also know it might not be helpful at all. But actively doing something to prepare is how I keep my cool in face of a crisis.
