How does Greta Thunberg afford her activism?

r/

This question randomly popped into my head as I was riding to work and I thought this would be a safe place to ask. I looked it up and she’s only 22, but has been traveling the world attending climate-related protests among others for several years already. How does she afford this? I figure now she might have sponsors or something, but that would probably be recent. Is her family rich? Does the Swedish government give her a stipend or something? Does she subsist entirely on donations? I think the publicity she brings to important issues is good, but can’t wrap my head around how she can do it.

When she travels to some event, she generally does so repressenting some organisation, so I would guess that the organisation pays for the trip and stay.

Just look at whose agendas she’s pushing and you’ll likely find her main donors. Different environmental and terrorists organizations, probably some sponsorships from left leaning political groups, media etc. One thing is for sure — her parents aren’t paying shit because high income earners are taxed into oblivion in Sweden.

Add book sales, speeches, and awards.

there are millions of missionaries that are supported by organizations, churches/religious centers, and individuals. Some have angel donors and they don’t have to fundraise that much. I’d imagine it’s similar to that. Kind of wish missionaries took some notes from her tbh but whatever.

edit: millions is a total guess, but it has to be at least several million of the global population no?

edit2: Rosa Parks lived in Detroit in the 90’s and was robbed and assaulted in her house. Mike Ilitch, the founder of Little Caesar’s pizza wanted her to live in a safer place so he paid for Rosa Parks’ rent for over a decade until she passed, and the public didn’t know until he passed. Could be something like that too.

She wrote a book. I got given it for Christmas a couple of years ago. But I’m sure that was fairly successful

She’s become incredibly rich through her activism. She has an agent, representation, etc. Good luck getting her to show up for less than $250K.

She gets $10 every time her existence triggers a conservative snowflake.

She comes from a really rich family. Add donations for activism and her book, engagement in social media and family connections.

Her parents were very successful that allowed to basically not work and become an activist. It ain’t cheap traveling around the world and not working

Her mother is a semi-famous opera singer and celebrity called Malena Ernman. Their family is well off.

Part of the reason that she’s so disliked is because is a priviledged rich kid from a rich country, preaching to people who are struggling to pay the bills, while she has no real life experience whatsoever…

A lot of the stuff she does is funded on some way. If she’s speaking at a major event, that even likely pays for her travel.

These non profits get donations and have funding they spend on stuff like traveling to speak and hold rally’s. This would be part of those expenses

Being an ‘activist’ is a job. You get paid to appear, give speeches, promote, write books and articles, and receive donations from organizations and private individuals. It helps if you come from a rich family, which Greta does. Nothing wrong with that, as activism has terrible health and retirement benefits. Some other activists: Ghandi, Malala Yousafzi, George Takei , Bob Geldof, Dan Savage.

She travels mostly by train or sailboat when possible, often with media crews or documentary teams who cover the costs. A lot of her public appearances are tied to events, conferences, or film projects where travel and logistics are handled by the organizers.

There’s a lot of misinformation in this post…much of it likely unintentional (other than those people who clearly disdain her activism for…reasons?).

She gets book royalties from her two best-selling books. She donates practically all of that money to her non-profit foundation.

Likewise, she’s won a few high dollar humanitarian prizes. She’s donated that money to her organization.

She doesn’t accept speaking fees, but she does a lot of speaking.

Her foundation isn’t just a non-profit shell allowing her to live in style, tax free. A great deal of that money goes to other non-profit organizations.

But, her foundation does cover her travel and living expenses as a full-time activist.

There’s more to it, but the big takeaway is she doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk.

Believe it or not, there are wealthy people who actually donate money to organizations to protest. They also paid people to protest since it’s not against the law because they are technically exercising their right to protest.

Same way any other activist does, even the likes of Charlie Kirk and Tommy Robinson. People/organisations pay her to go to places and communicate her point as she draws a significant following.
