Republicans will actually care about one

“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.” Charlie Kirk.

Republicans refuse to call Hortman’s murder an assassination, but they will definitely use that rhetoric for Kirk’s.

Technically Kirk died in a school shooting

Kirk supported the thing that killed him. Hortman and Hoffmann didn’t.

It’s the difference between getting eaten by your own pet leopard vs getting eaten by your crazy neighbor’s pet leopard.

There will be societal level consequences on this one.

The Hoffmans did nothing to incite violence.

I hate all of it. I hate all this violence. I hate the direction humanity is going. I’m devastated by all politically driven killings going on and I just want to take my family and leave.

Trump it’s cheering more about this one, he could not have asked for a better distraction.

The RNC was silent on their murders. Now they are demanding the DNC and Democratic leaders and politicans condemn Kirk’s shooting.

    That’s the difference.

The murder of the Hortmanns included the cold-blooded gunning down of a golden retriever, the friendliest dog breed there is.

Since this did happen at a school:

“School shootings are a fact of life.” – JD Vance

“We have to get over it.” – Donald Trump, after Iowa school shooting.

The calloused take is that the wider impact is going to be predicated on how well known the person was.

The tragic murders/shootings of Minnesota legislators and their spouses hardly sticks on the public consciousness because they were state-level legislators.

I imagine Charlie Kirk’s murder will remain top of mind because everyone knows who he is. Millions of conservatives follow him/repost his stuff because they believe in it, millions on the opposite end of the spectrum thought he was a shitbag/racist/sexist/homophobe/etc. Odds are, the average person on the street has more of an opinion about Charlie Kirk than state-level representatives and their spouses from Minnesota who were not really in the wider public eye before being murdered/shot.

Add to it that Charlie Kirk was a propagandist with close ties to the current administration, I doubt this fizzles out anytime soon.

I hope the kids at the Colorado highschool shooting that happened today are okay.

White house order to lower US flags for Kirk but not when a democratic state senator was assassinated or whenever we had school shootings which also happened today.

    In short:

“I can’t stand the word empathy actually. I think empathy is a made-up, New Age term that — it does a lot of damage.”

    Charlie Kirk, Oct 12, 2022

    Inspirational.

Trump will go to his funeral.

We don’t know who shot Kirk or their motives just yet. The guy who did the Minnesota shootings you mentioned was a right-wing crazy person, so if today’s shooter is a left-wing crazy person then maybe there’s a comparison.

For now though, the comparison is pretty goddamn obvious; today’s events got immediate condemnations from many prominent politicians on both sides. The Minnesota killings got some of the same bipartisan condemnations, and immediate rampant misinformation and bullshit from top magas. Trump skipped the funeral, didn’t issue a statement, and said that calling Tim Walz would be a “waste of time.” Elon tweeted that “the left” had killed Hortman and stated that the far left is “murderously violent.” Mike Lee stated with zero evidence that the shooter was a marxist and blamed the killings on Tim Walz. Dozens of weirdos including Don jr. and Laura Loomer, claimed the suspect was a leftist and “one of Walz’s goons.” As soon as it was revealed that he was a maga, they all started crying that it was a psyop, that the shooter was being framed, and that maybe he wasn’t actually the shooter.

It’s already being called a political assassinaion.
NYT initial headline regarding the killing of The Hortmans was “MN State Representative Dies”

  23. Comedian_Economy Avatar

Trump shrugged that off and then went on to insult Tim Walz. I don’t even think the FBI got involved. Not to mention the amount of Maga lawmakers making jokes about it.

  24. TheIrateAlpaca Avatar

The biggest show of partisan bullshit will be in how they charge this guy. They wanted the death penalty for Luigi, but the Minnesota shooter is only being charged with 2nd degree.

Because apparently making your car look like a police vehicle, dressing up as a law enforcement officer, finding out where these people lived and when they would be home, and having effectively a manifesto detailing these plans, was not enough evidence of premeditated intent for the current DoJ…

Throwback to when Paul Pelosi was almost killed with a hammer and then pretty much the entirety of American conservatives’ reaction to it was “haha funny!”, “The Pelosis are evil”, and “clearly, this was just a gay lovers’ quarrel and not political violence”.

So, you all will have to excuse me if I don’t believe your crocodile tears about Charlie Kirk, people “celebrating violence”, or “violent liberal rhetoric”. Clean up your own house, and then you can talk.
