I work in a nursing home and have one parent in a nursing home, one sibling with significant developmental disabilities and another elderly parent who can’t afford to live on social security and retirement alone. My brother and I are going to help them apply for snap but we are afraid that the cuts will harm our disabled sibling and nursing home-bound parent who depend on Medicaid

This will not impact anyone who is legitimately eligible for Medicaid
Parent of a disabled young adult who attends a SPED school. I don’t know about SNAP but Medicaid cuts will be devastating. What most do not understand is that there is a WIDE range on disability. The most severe-those who have documented cognitive abilities well below what is considered “below average” (so 70 or under) will probably still qualify. Those who are in altered/low awareness (basically pretty much 100% bedridden or immobile)will still qualify.
The problem is that the majority of disabled are not THAT severe but are significantly disabled enough to not be able to function or live in today’s world without help. They have the abilities to get hired for low skill jobs but they often don’t have the required “soft skills” to keep these jobs (I.e. they don’t “get” why they cannot say what they think or touch/scratch themselves when they have the need). They are very easy to be intimidated or bullied by other workers or supervisors so someone needs to be constantly onsite to prevent.
Without Medicaid and the fact the moderately cognitively disabled cannot get jobs that offer medical insurance or pay enough to get their own insurance, those who are not fortunate enough to have families who oversee and help them will not have insurance. Many will not be able to afford medications that permit them to even function at the level they are at now.
Bottom line- it is exactly the same as the rest of the US. Those who are higher end of “moderately disabled” (in the middle) are going to be most screwed. Some will be fortunate enough that they have resources to pay out of pocket but many will end up worse off
