How is NTU Singapore perceived in the US/Canada for PhD grads aiming for postdoc positions?

r/

Hi everyone,

I’m a prospective PhD student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore — specifically at the Centre for Computational Data Science (CCDS). I’m quite excited about the research opportunities and faculty there, but I’m also thinking a few steps ahead.

My long-term plan is to pursue a postdoc position in the US or Canada, hopefully at a strong research group in academia or a top research lab (industry or university-based). I wanted to ask:

How is NTU viewed in the academic/research circles in the US and Canada?
Would a PhD from NTU (with good publications and research output) be respected or competitive enough when applying for postdocs in North America?

I’m aware that local networking and advisor connections matter a lot, but I’d love to get some input from people who have seen NTU grads move into North American academia or research labs — or have gone through this path themselves.

Any perspective from current postdocs, professors, or researchers would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance 🙏
