I’m asking because I’m a quick shower kinda guy (28m), maybe 8-12 minutes max. I still feel like I’m pretty thorough, I’m a clean guy, like what else am I supposed to do in the shower though? I’ve been standing all day already, how do y’all shower for much longer than 15 minutes?
& To those who shower for 45+ minutes, minus a lot of a hair care stuff for peeps with longer hair, what do you do?
Like, for the entire shower time what are you even doing after minutes 20?
Also, does anyone here main baths? Like that’s your primary way of cleaning yourself, and if so, why baths over showers? (Excluding those who have limitations that inhibit showering)

Like 5 minutes, you can do all you need to do in that time. Also hot water zaps my skin of its moisture.
I feel like 12 mins is quite long tbh
how long I shower ranges from only a couple of minutes to about an hour or more depending on the availability of tub, time, mood and water temperature, oh also the music!
I shower every day before work. About 10 minutes tops. I shampoo then condition and wash myself while the conditioner does its thing. Who knows if it’s the right way to do stuff but that’s what I do. It also helps me wake up. I do use really hot water which I know is bad for your skin but I can’t stand cold or luke warm water.

15 or so minutes, give or take. I’ll typically scrub down, wash my hair (usually only a few times a week since that’s recommended), shave if needed, then spend the rest of the time just standing there enjoying the warmth.
I’d honestly take longer showers if I could, but my apartment complex is pretty strict on hot water usage, so it gets progressively colder around the 10 minute mark and is downright icy by around 15 minutes in. Probably for the best. Who knows how long I’d say in if I had infinite hot water? The cold water disciplines me, ha ha.
30 mins- honestly not sure how people do it so quickly, I have medium length hair for a girl and properly washing it takes me 10 min, then washing my whole body and then shaving (and maybe 5 mins of just enjoying the water)
I have long thick hair so most of my shower time is spent on that. I probably spend about 10 mins doing all the usual shower stuff, but then two lots of shampoo cos it’s a lot of hair and needs it and conditioner takes about 20 mins and finally I do a thorough facial cleanse which takes 5 mins. So about 35 mins. 40 mins if I use a hair mask instead of the conditioner.
Uhhh… Not sure, but I typically put on music while in the shower and today it was Queen’s Greatest Hits (not on shuffle). I’m usually done by the fifth song in, which would make it (currently looking at Tidal playlist) about 18 to 22 minutes.
I’ve timed myself multiple times and I always shower exactly 15 min without fail. It might be my secret superpower.
Woman here, ten minutes tops unless I do lady maintenance. LM can range from just shaving to full body exfoliation routine. On a full LM day 30 minutes is my tops if that…I have an inverted bob haircut that’s right above shoulders so it’s wash hair and then conditioner. I’ll do a bath with bar soap. Then exfoliate. Rinse conditioner. Bathe again (bar soap or my smelly stuff if I’m trying to get lucky) then wash my face good and make sure I got all the spots exfoliated and cleaned. The parts I spend the most time washing is my face and genital region. Like I bathe good anyway but those areas get extra attention and that may account for an extra few minutes.
Because of my adhd I hyper focus in the shower. So I just sit there thinking about the most random things. Realistically though I should only take like 5 minutes.
Jesus you are all making a simple act of cleaning a saga. I have huge thick curly hair and I budget for 3 minutes for deep conditioner after shampoo. That 3 minutes is my wash body and shave pits. Rinse and done. 8-10 minutes tops. Closer to 8 most times.
Like an hour. It just relaxes me. I’ll her in the shower to make me feel less sick too. No clue how it works but it does
I take the longest on my hair. Shampoo, rinse, second shampoo, rinse, and then conditioner, and rinse again. But, tbh, I also like to stay under the hot spray and just enjoy the warmth and think about stuff.
I think I take 10 minutes when I’m not washing my hair, and 20 when I do.
About 4-5 minutes for a normal shower, 10-15 if I shave. Post-workout showers are also a little bit longer just to let myself cool down and relax.
Probably around 10-15 minutes, 20 if I’m also shaving.
If I have a migraine I’ll take a longer hot shower, it’s one of the very few things that helps. A while ago I bought a heated head massager thing, hoping it would give me the same relief with less waste. But no luck, the noise of it stresses me out, and it has a terrible tik-tok style voice telling me what mode it’s in and after 15 minutes, that time is up. (Can’t it just turn off quietly?!)
It enrages me. So I’m back to showers.
I like to be in and out as fast as possible under 10 minutes would be the target. My brother on the other hand will take 45 minute showers. I don’t get it.
I can only detangle my hair with water, so depending on how much I have to do it can get pretty long
8-12 minutes? I’ve never done longer than 3. Wtf you doing for 8-12?
Get a bidet, they’re easy to add on to your toilet now. Like Redd Foxx said, you got to wash your ass
Seven minutes. If it’s a hair-wash day, then it’s 12 minutes (I have long hair).
I take longer but I have more to do in there 😂 I would be surprised if it took an average male more than 5-7 mins.
Probably about 20mins
It takes me about 30 minutes to shower. Sometimes more. I think it feels good to shower and be clean. I take my time and wash my entire body. Also I try not to get soap in my eye.
10-15mins? I’m a gal with long hair but it doesn’t take too long since I only shave once per week (except armpits I do daily which takes 20 seconds). After work especially I am ready to get done and get on with my life.
I shower for 45min to an hour. I put on the shower then curl into a fetal position in the tub. I put one hand under my ear to close off sound on that side, then I let water pool in my other ear to close off sound on right ear. Then I shimmy and use one toe on one leg to press the drain plunger so the water slowly fills the tub as I lay in it. After about 8 inches or so, I need to use my toe again to open the drain again or else I can’t breath air anymore. I repeat this a couple times. It’s very soothing.
5-8 minutes depending if I’m shaving my legs or deep conditioning my hair. Shampoo & rinse, put in conditioner, wash face, wash body, shave legs, brush teeth, rinse conditioner, done.
20 min if I’m washing my hair and shaving my legs. 5-7 minutes if just body
I know where all my parts are. I’m a quick shower taker!
usually at most 10 minutes, but I’ve had a few showers this year where I spent 20 minutes just dissociating
When I have a nice shower and time, probably about 45 mins. This includes getting undressed, selecting a playlist, washing and rinsing my medium-length hair twice, shaving armpits and full legs, and thoroughly scrubbing ad rinsing every bit of my being, daydreaming, re-playing or rehearsing conversations out loud, occasionally stoping to rinse and pat-dry a hand to skip a song or two, towel drying my body, and putting my hair to dry in what I call a “towel-roll” (pretty sure it has a name, I just don’t know it).
If I “don’t have time” it still takes a good 20 mins, but I skip one hair wash, only shave armpits and from the knees down, and either don’t select/put music on, or cut the daydreaming and out loud conversations with myself to the absolute bare minimum. The rest stays the same.
By then it’s about 25-35 minutes. Anything extra, I just enjoy the steaming hot water, blast my music or sometimes watch an episode of my show.
I used to take looooong showers, 20+ minutes. I just liked sitting in the hot water.
But the last couple years I’ve had some health problems and hot water makes my blood pressure plummet and I come damn near to passing out every. Single. Time. I shower. So I keep them under 10 minutes, ideally as fast as possible.
20 minutes max. Maybe 15. I like to shave and brush my teeth in the shower when I get home from work. I work in a job that leaves me oily and stinking when I leave so I feel like that’s the time needed to get completely clean.
I’m a girl with med length thick hair, and I shave. 10-15 mins is still plenty most of the time.
Shid
As a longtime parent factor in my efficiency.
Just skin: Around 12 minutes but my record is 3.5 minutes
Hair included: 18-20 minutes
Everything: 25 minutes
About 15 minutes, and my wife, without fail, will ask how I even got clean. I mean, put soap on, wash soap off. It’s not calculus.
I mean if I gotta get r done, can be 5 minutes easy. But I like showers so I just take my time, drink beer, listen to music that fits the mood, maybe do some karaoke
Those are the days I really get clean I’ll be in there for like 30 minutes plus, and I’m bald lmao
7-10 minutes on workdays. 10-20 on weekends.
If I have the time I love a long shower. It feels so good being in hot water!
I run out of hot water after about 18 minutes, I miss showering for 30+ :’(
Usually 15 minutes or so. Sometimes as long as 30. If I think I’ll want to go longer than that, I’ll just take a bath instead and soak for like an hour, then I’ll rinse off and wash my hair in the shower afterwards.
15 minutes max: wet entire body, shampoo but dont rinse hair yet, rinse hand, body soap, rinse everything from top to bottom. 9 minutes. Then conditioner- again, dont rinse yet, rinse hand, face wash, rinse everything. After that’s done it should be around 15 minutes mark.
Don’t want to take too long because water and gas is expensive.
I’m usually up at 6AM. I’m getting dressed at 6:15-ish every morning after a shower and brushing my teeth. I’d say the shower and drying off is about 12 minutes. And I make my bed before going to the shower.
I listen to the same press round up podcast every time I shower, it lasts 9 minutes. By the time it is finished, I’m dry again.
I have to replace my water heater, so I have 15 min of hot water max right now. That makes it much easier to be fast in the shower.
When I swap it out I’ll probably be around 20 min. I like to have the hot water hit my back for a while to loosen things up. My body took a beating until my mid-twenties between working since I was 12 and sports at high level from 8 yo through college (soccer and tennis, my knees and elbows are “tired” according to my doc.)
5 minutes including hair.
My showers are 15 minutes, but it’s all my stupid hair. It knots super easily if I’m not careful with the way I wash it and condition it. I’ve shaved my head a couple times and fondly recall how fast my showers were when I had shorter hair – plus my hair wouldn’t take eight hours to dry afterward! If I could perfect trimming my hair myself, I’d just do that, but shoulder-length is most forgiving when cutting my own hair.
I do 10-ish. Longer if the water feels hotter than usual.
20+ mins if I need to wash my hair.
Full body wash and scrub – I use a regular bodywash on most of my body and a salicylic cleanser on my chest/back/shoulders with one of those exfoliating cloths that gets my back to make sure the conditioner is all gone. 5 mins-ish
Underarm and full leg shave. Including lathering them up, actually shaving and rinsing, another 5 mins.
Face: cleanser, exfoliation, rinse – about 3 mins.
Final rinse – 1 min.
Then there’s putting my hair in its own towel turban, drying my body, doing the rest of my face skincare (serum, moisturizer, etc), lotion on the rest of my body, brushing teeth, etc.
That’s just the essentials too. That doesn’t include extras like face/hair masks, body scrub, getting rid of any dry skin on my feet with a foot file, etc.
At least 30 minutes. Detangling and dealing with my hair is a LONG process, even with just using a 2in1 shampoo and no other products, and it needs to happen quite regularly. I dont have the water running 100% of that time but i’m in the shower nonetheless.
Surprised at the answers in this thread. Im out in 6 mins, and i didn’t think I was a particularly quick showerer. I brush my teeth in the shower as well so could cut that time down further.
Get in, wash face, wash body, brush teeth, blast hot water before getting out, done. A couple of mins extra for when I need to wash my hair.
Really depends for me. I deal with some pretty bad nose bored from time to time, so I’ll stay in for upwards of 30 min once a week just to try and get steam/moisture in my nose but typically like 10 min
Depends, if I’m not feeling it and want to be in and out, 5-6 mins. If I’ve got a lot on my mind or it’s cold out, 15-20.
15-25 min
I spend more time singing than washing, and sitting on the floor staring into space for 5 min too
I have a few different shower styles:
The Spartan: 2-4 minutes. Rinse face and hair, lather and scrub armpits, asshole, genitals, and feet, light wash and rinse everything in between. Often I will play some music to help keep time.
The Classic: 5-8 minutes. Shampoo and condition hair, hot washcloth exfoliate face, full body lather and rinse, maybe brush my teeth. Quick pumice stone on my feet. Maybe I throw on some tunes, maybe a podcast.
The Indulgence: 20-35 minutes. Shampoo and experiment with wife’s leave in conditioner. Shampoo and condition my beard. Wonder if I should use some different kind of shampoo on my face but do it anyway. Brush my teeth. Stretch down and touch my toes. Get a good lather going, whole body scrub to follow. Sand down my feet with pumice stone. Rinse all the lather off and play with the shower head a bit. Rinse out conditioner. Probably listening to podcast.
5 minutes tops. I have a disease (MS) that causes me to actually pass out from heat exhaustion if I spend more than a few minutes until the hot or even just warm water. And cold showers suck, lol. I would love for all of y’all to take a nice hot shower on my behalf. It’s weird but it brings me a little joy to know others can still enjoy it! 🧡
10 to 15, but sometimes I use a hair treatment or shave. Baths are for relaxing and dealing with stress.
Mine are only longer than ten minutes because I spend five minutes turning (read, “dancing”) and disassociating for about five minutes when I first step in.
I’m about 15-20 minutes, depending on if I’m shaving, what I’m shaving, and me zoning out thinking about how I’d save the world from zombies. Um, add on an extra 5 minutes for the zombie thoughts.
I try to stay until the hot water is gone
Usually around 20 minutes. The exact length varies depending on what combination of shaving, body washing, and hair washing I’m doing – also on whether or not I’m using a hair mask. I take forever when I get out to do all my hair and skin care, though.
2 15 minute showers a day
I’ll get in the shower and my brain just turns off for 60 minutes and it becomes the hardest thing in the world to actually do anything.
