    There is nuance there. HR handled by professionals is fairly well done, and does both.

    HR handled by some underpaid employee is going to be rife with problems and issues.

    100% agree – doesn’t mean they don’t help you, but they are there for the company

    I think it’s an oversimplification. I mean, why would a company create a team to go against its interests? Wouldn’t that be dumb? So of course HR, like any other department, is there to help the company.

    But this doesn’t mean it’s there to screw people up, to underpay, to cut benefits. It’s just there to work on anything related to people.

    There are cases where while HR is not your friend, they will rule in your favor because they’re keeping the company from stepping in dogshit. It’s still in the interest of the company, but it benefits you in the end.
