How many of you who have male partners, still hold hands while he drives?

r/

It happened to me in 3 out of 4 of my serious relationships. My fiancé (43) either puts his hand on my thigh or holds my hand when he drives. I was just wondering how common this was. May sound stupid but I’m surprised we’re still doing this since I thought it was a “young people thing”. Last time a guy held my hand like that was when I was 21/22.

My bf is 42 and he does that. I think it’s common. My ex husband did it but after the relationship got strained he stopped.

My husband and I do that often. I would say every time we’re on the road together. It’s not something I need, don’t think it’s something he needs, but we both like to hold hands in the car. We aren’t even the type of couple that likes PDA lol

  3. Explodingovary Avatar

We’re 34 and 39. It’s not an all the time thing but we do regularly reach out and touch each other at times when we’re driving. Some times more than others but it’s still something we do fairly regularly.

I don’t know how common it is, but I like to hold hands with my boyfriend at red lights sometimes. But definitely not while the vehicle is in motion. 😄

  5. Evolutionairy4 Avatar

Oh totally, my man is a total sucker for it, I love it 😀

  6. randomthrowaway22447 Avatar

My man does this & he’s 35. He’s always the one to initiate it too. It’s cute

  7. popeViennathefirst Avatar

Im the driver, my husband’s hand is always on my tight.

  8. LateNightCheesecake9 Avatar

Rarely, but I live in a place where the traffic sucks and you really need both hands to be able to engage with driving at all times.

  9. Neat3371 Avatar

My husband still does it after 20 years however I have never enjoyed it. I don’t enjoy any hand holding and cuddling. I usually let him for a while and then slowly pull my hand away. He also sometimes pulls my hand to his lips and kisses it which I find a bit odd but it’s been going on for so many years that I’m used to it 🙈.

My husband is always holding my hand or touching my thigh when driving. Maybe not all at once where his hand stays there the whole time but he’s definitely doing it.

  11. RubY-F0x Avatar

We’re 35 and we regularly hold hands or are touching in some way when either of us drives.

  12. FrenchFrozenFrog Avatar

My husband is 40, and he has never stopped (we have been together since 21-22). He also asks for my hand whenever we go on a walk.

  13. Appropriate-You-5179 Avatar

My husband and I always reach for each other’s hands while we’re in the car. Doesn’t matter which one of us is driving or which is the passenger. We both reach. We don’t necessarily stay holding hands for the entire trip— we’ll hold on, let go, reach again, etc.

  14. StubbornTaurus26 Avatar

We don’t. He drives very by the book “10 & 2” and I drive very not by the book but holding hands while driving would stress me out 😂

  15. o_simple_thing Avatar

My husband and I hold hands when he drives. When we aren’t holding hands, sometimes I pet his hair, skritch his scalp, or something similar.

He never holds onto my thigh. We got together as teens and we are to this day still very freaky but hand on thigh has never been for us. 🤷‍♀️

  16. hello_pilgrim Avatar

I’ve never done this in my life. I’ve been with my husband since 1998.

  17. bbspiders Avatar

I drive 99% of the time and I mostly use both hands cause I don’t wanna crash.

  18. IfknheartT Avatar

Husband never dose/done it. Too concerned with safety I guess

  19. epicpillowcase Avatar

It does sound stupid. “Both hands on the wheel” exists for a reason.

EDIT holy fuck, people in this comments section don’t value road safety.

We used to (42 me – 48 him) until he did his shoulder and he’s in physio now to correct but it’s a long, slow process. We’ve been together 25 years next week. I don’t think it’s solely the domain of the youngsters.

  21. KayyBeey Avatar

Almost every time, but not the whole time either. We hold hands while walking together too. It’s one of our favorite things. We’re both in our 30s.

  22. huffle-puffle89 Avatar

my boyfriend (38M) and I (36f) have been together for almost 2 years, and we do this. We hold hands when we walk the dog, when we drive, he’ll reach over and touch my thigh, or blow me a kiss. We cuddle when we watch tv, we cuddle every night, we have lots of backscratches, playing wiht hair….

If I’m touched out from work (I work with kids), i’ll tell him, and he’ll ask if I’m ready to cuddle or need more time- but otherwise, we have loads of physical affection.

I drive in the UK and we mainly drive manual cars, this just seems very bad for gear changing ha.

If he tried to hold hand whilst I drove I’d probably shout at him.

  24. Dear-Cranberry4787 Avatar

We do (35/45), but only until someone’s hand gets sweaty.

  25. itsathrowawayduhhhhh Avatar

I drive lol. He can holy my hand if he wants

  26. Wild-Opposite-1876 Avatar

I’m the one driving, and I’d hate if he did so, because I’m all focused on the road and dislike being touched while driving.

  27. createusername101 Avatar

I’m 43m and I also do this with my 50f girlfriend. It’s how I say I love you, without crashing the car.

  28. Serenity_Novv Avatar

My partner and I do this often. He will put his hand on my leg while driving or hold and caress my hand.

  29. Omakaselovewine Avatar

Hubby (42) and I (38) hold hands while one of us is driving all the time (not the entire time driving though) .. been doing it for 18 years now.. i don’t forsee it changing lol.

  30. manykeets Avatar

My partner and I have been together 13 years, and we still hold hands when he drives. If I’m driving, he puts his hand on my thigh because he knows I can’t multitask lol.

  31. The_Broadest Avatar

When I drive I will touch his thigh at stoplights but not driving and he doesn’t when he’s driving, he’s not as relaxed a driver as me

  32. SnooBeans1976 Avatar

That’s so romantic. Of course, only when it’s safe.

  33. WorthNo1533 Avatar

always. If the road conditions are slick I’ll rub his neck because I’m too paranoid that he’d need his other hand and it would be stuck to mine.

  34. Alert_Week8595 Avatar

During active driving we keep our hands on the wheel. At a stop light, my husband often lightly reaches over to touch my leg.

  35. antique_velveteen Avatar

Depends on the driving conditions but sometimes yep. He’s mostly the driver, and he’s a very good one. If we’re headed across town his hand will creep across the console and reach for mine. It’s adorable

  36. ZetaWMo4 Avatar

My husband is 51 and he still holds my hand or my thigh while driving.

  37. davy_jones_locket Avatar

    We still do this.

In fact, on our first drive, I told my partner that it was a rule in my car that he had to put his hand on my thigh or hold my hand 😂

  38. thesnarkypotatohead Avatar

My husband is 38, I’m 34. Together 8 years so far. He pretty much always puts his hand on my thigh at red lights when he’s driving. Otherwise mine is usually on his. We also hold hands when we walk frequently, as long as it’s practical to do so.

  39. 624Seeds Avatar

I always hated holding hands but my partner of 11 years still wants to when he drives

  40. Moonstorm934 Avatar

I usually have to reach for his hand, but we hold hands almost every time we ride in the car together.

  41. warmingupmymind24 Avatar

We do. Not all the time, but most of the time. However, there is absolutely no hand holding when I’m driving. He often elects to let me be passenger princess, simply to avoid my road rage.

  42. concentrated-amazing Avatar

I’d say we do it like a third of the time? It’s not all the time, but far from rare either.

  43. Equivalent_Habit_515 Avatar

No, but I start speeding up when the light turns red and then start screaming that I’m not gonna stop.

  44. Good_Focus2665 Avatar

My husband does. Regularly.  But for like a minute or two.

  45. DolliGoth Avatar

Still hold hands with mine, but I think it has the extra caveat of him knowing I’m very attracted to how he looks driving one handed. The man has forearms that speak to me lol
