I feel like often after reading a post and felling bad/good for someone I see comments making fun of how fake it must be. Is there even a point to being here then? Are most posts just made up?

Comments
30% not even humans making the stories.
30% humans making up stories.
20% humans presenting stories that are TECHNICALLY true (to a degree) but are exaggerated or out of context enough so that they aren’t honestly being present.
20% True in an honest sense. (Not to say these can’t be stupid or even factually wrong, but they are at least being presented honestly as what they are.)
In a lot of subreddits it’s conventional to post fake stories we are expected to pretend are real, like AITA, relationshipadvice, to a lesser extent legaladvice as well.
Entertaining nonetheless I suppose
And then they get turned into YouTube shorts, read by a computer voice with random unrelated videos underneath.
It’s all Lies, because you CANNOT HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Even if they’re fake, if it’s a good and interesting premise and plot— it still serves to help.
Because people give a lot of really good advice, and offer support, and I would like to think that it makes people think about things they normally wouldn’t think about.
If it’s a made up story about, say abuse, or being manipulated, a lot of the comments direct people to resources that can help them get therapy, or read about what’s happening.
Basically, there’s a lot of stuff on here. That help helps people make their lives better, or deepenstheir philosophical quandaries, answers questions they didn’t know they had.
There’s a lot of junk, sure, but a lot of good too. I mostly only look at uplifting and non-nasty subs though, so I don’t know how stupid it gets in other places.
Idk, but i hope the steak out the window story is real lol. And the poop knife
Well I actually work at the Reddit Factory and we have a strict filtering system. The other day I was at work and my colleague Greg said “I’m literally starving” and a siren went off and he was taken out back and shot for exaggerating, which is worse than lying. So you can take it from me, absolutely 0% of posts on Reddit are fake
99 %
90% on Am I overreacting and similar subs.. and I’m being very generous with those 10% being real. People will post a completely fake conversation that will go along the lines of “I beat you and it’s your fault” followed by “am I overreacting??” and people (or rather fellow karma farmers) commenting how they’re clearly not overreacting and have to break up.. it’s full of posts like these, whether it’s relationship abuse, parental abuse, racism etc.

A large chunk of the “main” subs are just bots farming content from mainstream news sources and other socials.
A lot of personal stories are basically creative writing prompts. There may be a grain of truth in them but they’re designed to trigger emotional reactions.
If I was interested in only real things, I could just ask people I know about their day. Those stories are written and read as entertainment, mixed in with some truth. Kinda the same reason we watched reality shows knowing they’re scripted
Depends on the subreddit. AITA is probably 95% faKE.
Mostly people that can’t use google or YouTube to find answers.
Although I’ve seen people comment on someone that had an experience happened to them that’s pretty common. Then you’ll have people comment saying that didn’t really happen. Just because they’ve never left their house and had common things like there’s happened to them.
I would probably guess about 1/2.
AITA and other major subs have several million subs. That’s just the subs. Many more are not subbed but lurk every now and again.
Statistically with so many the likelihood of those posting outrageous stories is a lot higher.
Even stuff on the “fact” subreddits like TIL and InterestingAF tend to be either exaggerated, misinterpreted, or taken out of context to be used as engagement bait.
On the internet, if there isn’t a reputable source to back a claim, I assume it’s an embellishment of the truth at best, if not completely false.
AITAH is 99.9% soap opera though.
Idk but it’s honestly annoying when you put a lot of effort and thought into a post or comment and people just post “fake”. Some people genuinely have fucked up situations and experiences.
I use to go on r/SubSimulatorGPT2 and read posts by bots that were sometimes hilarious but it died. This one is active r/SubSimGPT2Interactive
Imagine how many more are running around Reddit.
This one time I fought a Dragon. Just sayin’.
