Long story short, I’m a Gringo and my wife is Colombian. We live in USA where I love hiking/camping and I got her into the hobby as well. We spend a lot of time in Colombia visiting her family. Every time I’ve been there I’m in awe with the natural beauty of the country and of course I have a deep desire to go explore and spend more time in the nature.
I am curious if hiking/camping is popular in Colombia or in your respective countries? Is it accessible and safe? All insight it’s greatly appreciated.
Para quien habla español: “son acampada y senderismo popular y seguros y accessibles en su pais? Lo siento por mi español malo.

In Argentina is safe in terms that you won’t be bothered and you don’t need to worry by dangerous wildlife. But I don’t find it accesible because gear is very expensive and most people in my country live far from worthy places to hike.
It was one of the main hobbies when I was living back in GT.
Plenty of volcanos to climb, mainly, and some other interesting paths.
When I was doing my bachelors, it was one of the typical group activities to plan during vacation time, a volcano trek.
Backpack camping is pretty popular in Argentina. There are lots of camping sites and places to go hiking and trekking, especially in Patagonia. I know a lot of people who went camping to Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes. Also El Chaltén, a small town in Patagonia, is known as the country’s trekking capital.
