How to stop bluffing ?

r/

I lie a lot and I don’t know why

I am not so much of a talker. I get anxious and fear a lot of what kinda words are suitable to say when I have conversations to people . My mind goes blank and I tend to say some random ass story. People who I look up to and who I want to please easily find it . I can’t think honestly during conversations with my seniors or friends . I know that I shouldn’t bluff but It’s just comes out . I want to change this attitude of mine. Please help …

You are not happy with whom you are and want to be liked or avoid blame. Lying fills that requirement. Except you will always be someone trying to find excuses rather than solutions. If you make a decision to be someone who can be trusted then lying is the first thing that has to go. It is endemic of other deeper problems that are present.

Pure unadulterated honesty never pleases everybody in the short term, and you gain real true partners and peoples trust in the long term.
Lying may be able to please people in the short term, but you end up with nobodies trust or partnership in the long term.

Is it because as a child you still got in trouble even when you told the truth so you just learned compulsive lying as a self defence technique?

Like any compulsive behaviour, you just need to put yourself through exposure therapy for it in a safe and sanitised space.

Now, for the real question: How often do you have trouble staying on topic during a conversation, do you internalise things very easily, and do you feel like your thoughts are racing 24/7?
