Location: Canada
My husband is a Canadian citizen but when he was in high school he lived in the states. When he was there he got an assault charge (over 30 years ago) I don’t believe he was convicted but it is on his record. After he returned to Canada, he attempted to go back in to the States (about 20 years ago) and was denied entry due to the charge.
His family still lives in the states and he hasn’t been able to go visit them because he is unsure of he will be allowed entry into the country after being denied and we don’t want to spend the money just to turned around.
His father passed away a couple of years ago and because of him being denied entry before he didn’t want to chance trying again. Now his mom is having health issues and we both would love to go down and see her but he is still worried about the charge preventing him from gaining entry.
How would we go about finding out if he is eligible to enter the country so that we can go be with his mom if she get sicker?
Edit:
The charge happened in the USA not in Canada. Just want to make that clearer.
