I (18 male) am going to get kicked out of the house in about 6 weeks with little to no money to my name.

r/

I just found this out today and honestly have no idea where to even start with things because i never imagined this possibility. I have no family or friends that could be of any help in this scenario and im looking for any advice on how to survive and get by in the short term and what to do about my future in the long term. thank you in advance and any and all advice is appreciated.

Edit: to add some more info i just thought might be helpful I live in NY in the USA if that makes a difference

Why are you getting kicked out of the house? Can you negotiate an extension to get yourself some time to get on your feet? If I were in your position I would either take out loans and go to college or join the military.

There should be some sort of local agency you could go to, to get housing or at least assistance with housing. I’m in Nebraska which is a red state and have a friend that gets housing for little to nothing through state assistance. This seems like the only option since you mentioned having no other help. I can try and do some research to help and come back with some more specifics if you want 🙂 definitely try applying for Medicaid as well. They have really great programs for this kinda stuff too

Why aren’t you working? Not to be an ass but I’m sure you knew before you turned 18 right? Why is this a last minute cry for help?sounds like you didn’t think they would.maybe you just hang out and party? USPS is hiring .( not an ad lol)

Background info. Do you have a job or car? Are you in school or out of school?

Are you in New York City or are you in the wider New York State?

Well, you’ve been on Reddit since 2023 and this is your only post and you have no comments so I’m guessing you deleted everything that you may have had out there.

I hope people don’t fall for any funding request .

Im not sure where you are, but there’s a website for the U.S. that shares jobs with lodging, I’m trying to remember the name of it. Its alot of seasonal stuff but some year round too. It’s mostly state parks and resorts.

I’ve seen wait staff, gardening, cleaning crew, things like that. When I think of the site I’ll come back and let you know.

Are you in a foster situation? Or have you been told you need to get out after you graduate. Some foster parents will kick you out soon after the State’s payments to them for you cease, which is really crappy.

Honestly in your situation I would join the military and not look back.

Why are you being kicked out?

Have your documents, birth certificate, social security, etc.

    Have a job.

If you can’t save up enough for a security deposit in time buy camping gear and find a campground to stay at while you save. Hopefully they have showers on site but if anything you could look for a gym membership, planet fitness I think is pretty wide spread and not too expensive

Or just be homeless and work 3 jobs for a while.

(I know both a person who stayed at a campground until they could afford an apartment and a homeless person with 3 jobs who outright bought their own house in a tourist town on the beach. You’ll be fine as long as you work hard and don’t give up.)

Assuming this is not a scam and not a bait for people to send you money

The way this is worded feels like you are intentionally leaving information out. I understand some parents are awful, but I feel like there’s more to the story.

That being said, you should join the military… I’m telling you this as is someone who is so not a military kind of person

If I was in your shoes, that’s exactly what I would do

My grandpa said People join the military for five reason

    “1 Boot lickers

2 Your whole family is military so you follow

3 Don’t know what to do with yourself

4 You have no resources and are running away from a poor environment, you’re escaping something, someone, or yourself

5 people who want to legally kill other people” – my OSI detective grandfather
