I (29M) keep elbowing my girlfriend (26F) in the face in my sleep. What can I do to prevent this?

r/

We’ve been dating for 4.5 years, living together for three. This has only been happening in the past year or so, since I was promoted at work. Almost every morning, she tells me, “you hit me in my face again last night.” We’ve deduced that it happens when I turn over in my sleep with my elbows up, knocking her sweet face in the process. It’s a queen sized bed, so there’s enough room. She knows I’m not doing it on purpose, but still, it’s very jarring and annoying for her to be elbowed in the face at 4am every morning, and it disrupts her sleep. Any advice? I hate that I’m hurting her but I don’t know what to do, since I’m asleep when it happens.

Buy a king size bed, heaps more room but the downfall is having to buy new bedding. Nothing much can be done unless you or her sleep in another bed

I’d maybe suggest a body pillow between you two to create more distance so that when you do roll over, you aren’t close enough to elbow her anymore. My fiancé and I have one and it’s nice to be able to cuddle before bed but then have our own spaces as we sleep, as we both toss and turn as well

This is similar to one of the reasons my husband and I sleep in separate beds.  He rolls around and sometimes we collide.  I have a hard time sleeping and tend to get in and out of bed a lot.  We have found it easier to sleep and there is no love lost because of it.

Sleep reverse of her with your head at her feet?

Straitjacket? Actually, there are adult sized sleep sacks (like a halo sleep sack for babies) that keep your arms in. Otherwise, you may need to sleep separately.

Two twin beds so you can push them together when you want but each have space other times?

Weighted blanket to hold you down?

You should talk to your Dr and get a sleep study done. Do you also snore?

    Might be sleep apnea!

Try to be aware of sleeping with your arms to your side I suppose
