I am a 16 year old student from Moscow, living in a family with slightly lower income. Ask me anything, but I will say in advance that I find the current situation terrible and want it to end as soon as possible.
I am Russian living in Moscow. Ask Me Anything.

I’ve heard that the financial situation of ordinary ppl (prices, availability of the services) became substantially worse since 2022, but I have also heard that most western goods are substituted with similar Russian ones (heavily subsidized), and war has almost no effect on the average ppl’s perception (at least in big cities like Moscow). What is your experience?

Do you think that Russia will ever be capable of dealing with their history the way Germany did after WW2? Like acknowledging it, teaching it in schools, making amends for it? Instead of how countries like Turkey and Japan deal with the dark chapters of their history.
From discussions I’ve had with a friend I’d say we are pretty in the dark on what would happen after Putin dies. He’s pretty much locked up or killed all his political opponents so I guess the question is who or what political party do you think would take over after he died?

Did the food get more expensive ? I lived in moscow for 6 months in 2017, I was shocked by supermarket prices.. they were about the same level as my home country, with the difference that in Russia you are lucky to earn 1500USD. Where is in my country it would be the very bottom end, did that get any better ?
I remember I spoke to a girl that held a master degree and worked for aviation program of the Russian government and she only made around 850USD a month with loads of qualifications.
I have a Russian family neighbor. They wont send their 5 yr old kid to school because the kid doesnt like it but mom seems to be very academic focused. They looked for all different kinds of charter schools and science school in town but since the kid doesnt like going to school, they let their 5 yr old sit at home. The kid speaks no english and has close to zero social skills. Is this normal in Russia?

I have a friend who is in conversation with a beautiful Russian woman… and it’s pretty apparent that she wants OUT of there. I’m afraid that she’s far more interesting in leaving Russia than she is in being with him.
At least from a western media perspective, it seems that Russia is constantly bombing cities and civilians in Ukraine, while Ukraine bombs refineries and military bases.
Do people in Russia believe the opposite? That Russia strikes only military targets and Ukraine strikes civilians? Or are they aware that the Russian forces are bombing cities and they support it?
Do you know Chechens, if yes, could you tell a bit more?
How do you feel the Russians who got sent to prison for just protesting against the war of aggression on Ukraine will be treated by their own citizens/future government once they are eventually released?
Hiya, firstly I would like to thank you for giving us this valuable experience to ask you questions, it’s brave to open yourself up to possibly hostile people. I have a few questions, all of which are quite random;
In my country we have this idea that russian people are very stern all the time eg. No smiling at strangers, is this true?
