Title. I had a storage unit in Austin that was recently burglarized. I found out about it late last week when my lock had been removed and changed. I hired a locksmith to cut it off and that’s when it was revealed my unit had been burglarized. I know who the perpetrators are. When I called it in to 911, they told me the cops couldn’t come out and to file a report online, which I completed, and added a second lock temporarily since I was moving my things out ASAP.
Yesterday, I’d hired a couple guys from an app to remove the rest of what was left of the unit and gave them the exact location and unit number. When I went to the unit this morning, I couldn’t get my keys to work, and thought the same situation happened again. I called 911 and they did send out an officer. Two of them showed up and I explained the situation. They took down my first and last name, date of birth and address. I gave it to them, but it seemed fishy. They then asked me if I had documentation of ownership of the unit and if I had a code to get in, answered my questions and asked if I had filed a report.
I’ve never had an officer take down my information, especially my DOB when I wasn’t a suspect. Was there a reason for this?

I’ve taken down virtually every single victim’s Name+DoB I’ve ever spoken with even for much less serious offenses; it’s Law Enforcement 101 to do so. If you don’t know who the victim is, you have zero case and you just wasted a bunch of gasoline and time while there are other people who might need your help elsewhere.
Hopefully you don’t take the following as hostile and take it as the genuine question it is:
If you don’t want a criminal case to be authored, why call law enforcement for a latent crime?
Like he said, we can’t file a report without the victims information and yes that includes date if birth.
I found out how many people CVS has in their system when I gave them my name to oick uo a script. They asked for birthday and I gave then month and day. The youf lade commented there were ‘dozens of people in their system with my name and month/date of birth, so yea the year is to seperate it iut
