I can’t decide between doing a Masters degree and actually experiencing university or accepting a degree apprenticeship and not taking on another loan. What should I do?

r/

I am currently applying for a masters in my career field which is a 2 year course. I feel like I didn’t get to properly experience university in my bachelor’s due to several factors and now I’m more mature I’m hoping to have some sort of good experience.

I have been searching for a short term job position for in between now and September and a company has responded with the additional offer of an apprenticeship. This was not initially in my plan but the apprenticeship route is an extremely valuable opportunity.

The degree is paid for by the company and I’d be working 4 days a week, studying 1 for 3 years. Furthermore over those three years I’d also be building up enough experience to become chartered in my field, cutting down what could be a 6-7 year process into just 3-4.

This is an incredible opportunity and one I’m grateful to have been offered but a part of me is mourning for the experience I never got and will never get. I got this offer far too late in the evening to think rationally about anything so I’d really appreciate some advice on what to do.

I’d get the free masters degree. It’s two years of stability. Who knows what’s gonna happen at apprenticeship? You need to decide what’s good for you. Is the apprenticeship going to help secure a better future? What is the main goal in your life and which one is going to help you achieve it better.
