I can’t feel pleasure and my emotions are blunted. AMA

r/

I am suffering from anhedonia – the inability to feel pleasure – as well as flattening of all negative emotions to boot. Instead of feeling a buzz in my head and the warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach when doing something pleasurable, I feel a permanent void or blockage in my frontal lobe. Ask away! 🙂

How did you get diagnosed? And what made you decide to actually get diagnosed?

I’m sorry if this comes off insensitive. But could you have depression? I had this but antidepressants helped quite a bit.

    Stay strong ❤️

If this were to happen to someone else, what’s your advice for how to handle it?

Dang, so you’re telling me when you eat a krispy Kreme donut, you get no joy from it?

I have the same thing, for me it was caused by too long a period of stress and high cortisol levels due to anxiety neurosis. I got anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medication and it’s better, I’m slowly starting to try new things and I feel a little more from it. Good luck with your recovery!

    Question.
What would you like to try to do but have never done it?

Someone asked how you got diagnosed and I don’t know if you answered fully. You said you got tested. What was the litmus test that made some say to you “ah, you have anhedonia “

Do you think it’s going to be permanent? Has any of your treatments made it even slightly better?
