I can’t stand Zelda games, and I’ve tried them all.

r/

Yeah, I know, it’s one of the most beloved and acclaimed franchises ever, but honestly, I just can’t get into them. I’ve tried every title, from Ocarina of Time to Breath of the Wild, and I still find them boring and repetitive. I just can’t get immersed in their world, and the gameplay mechanics don’t click with me. I’ll never understand why everyone treats them like masterpieces.

Well, Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild are masterpieces, even if they don’t click for you.

Sounds like they just aren’t for you. Not every game is for everyone.

  3. Bumm-fluff Avatar

Now that is what I call an unpopular opinion.

Up there with not liking ice cream or puppies.

  4. seasawl0l Avatar

    Have an upvote def unpopular.

  5. IrrelevantManatee Avatar

This is not an opinion: it’s just your personal preference.

No game is supposed to be loved by everyone

  6. ikati4 Avatar

They are fun action adventure games but i can understand why you find them repetitive. While i don’t consider them among my favorite games i like them but i have to admit that i prefer the 2Ds over the 3Ds

  7. Emaribake Avatar

    What games do you like?

  8. Due_Willingness1 Avatar

Ocarina of time was so ahead of its era, wasn’t the first 3-D RPG but it definitely brought the genre into the mainstream

We can thank it indirectly for the success of everything from Elder Scrolls to the Witcher series and that makes it worth giving it some praise by itself

  9. ThunderBuns935 Avatar

You can enjoy things that are bad and dislike things that are good, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t those things, it just means you have a different preference to other people.

ngl I didn’t get the Zelda hype till I played The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

  11. Calm_Environment5485 Avatar

Same but also final fantasy 7, 8 etc.., the story and art are great but i just find playing it super boring and it drags for ages.

  12. dino-sour Avatar

What do you mean you hate Zelda games?? You’ve played all the games!

(Altering a quote from Parks and Rec)

But it’s okay that they don’t vibe with you.

  13. BoxCarBlink44 Avatar

It kinda looks like all your opinions are bad, not even just the ones about Zelda. Idk if this post is unpopular or just stupid in general

  14. HairyDadBear Avatar

Really? Not one game clicked with you?

i agree the tradition zeldas arent fun like ocarina and skyward sword.

  17. cimocw Avatar

that’s fine, but what types of games do you enjoy?

  18. Free-Pension-1145 Avatar

My brother in Christ. Stop buying and playing Zelda games if you don’t like them.

When the next release comes out are you going to play through that one too? If so, why? Whats the breaking point

  19. ChangingMonkfish Avatar

Unpopular but everyone’s entitled to their opinion.

I personally think Elden Ring is boring AF and also can’t understand why anyone likes it.

Each to their own I suppose.

I think this is the first time an unpopular opinion on here has been all 3 of:

    A) unpopular

    B) an opinion

    C) something I agree wholeheartedly with

It feels strange to upvote here and be happy about it

  21. YoshiExcel2097 Avatar

There are games that are extremely popular and are considered masterpieces (Red Dead Redemtion 2 comes to mind), but I simply can’t get into them. Even if I can’t get into the game, I can definitely understand what could be the appeal to others and why they would be considered a masterpiece.

  22. perfectangelgirl77 Avatar

    This is kinda valid

  23. Apprehensive-Gur-609 Avatar

Respect you for posting an unpopular opinion, but I also think you have shit taste.

What are some of your favorite games then? You might be able to redeem yourself.

  24. Spiritual-Tadpole342 Avatar

I loved the Zelda for NES. This was what..38 years ago? Maybe you should try that one.

  25. coffeeandtea12 Avatar

I feel like you like them a little more than you say. Zelda has a good amount of titles why would you try them all if you “can’t stand them”? There’s plenty of other games out there. I feel like you either like them more than you think or you haven’t played every title and just said that to avoid people saying “what about BoTW did you even try that”

  26. Informal_Stranger117 Avatar

You played Oracle of Ages, didn’t like it at all, and thought “ok, now on to Oracle of Seasons”?

At no point did you think “These two titles appear to be pretty much the same game, so I’m going to skip game y because it looks very similar to game x which I know I didn’t like”?

    Are you ok?

  27. nryporter25 Avatar

I really liked Ocarina of Time, but honestly, it was too hard for me to finish. I like a game I can just coast through and can find relaxing. SOMETIMES, i like the puzzle thing, but only when I feel like it. So like an open world with the option to do puzzles when i want and an easy setting for combat is what i like

  28. PyschoJazz Avatar

Same. I’ve always been a Mario guy.

  29. lagrandesgracia Avatar

I know what you mean. Thats why I found BotW to be so refreshing. Its not a good zelda game, because the things that make zelda “zelda” were pretty lackluster, but its a damn great experience in its own right.

  30. Fae-SailorStupider Avatar

I feel like OOT to BOTW doesnt include Link to the Past, my personal favorite, and the only one I’ve ever really gotten into lol

  31. percocetpenguins Avatar

I agree. I’ve tried every single one. I get soo so bored. Just not the world or characters for me:(

  32. Kenthanson Avatar

    I agree with your opinion.

  33. Andarus443 Avatar

Totally understand not being into it. Zelda games can range from zany to niche and it is rather phenomenal considering all of the disparity between fans on what they like about the games.

  34. GunstarGreen Avatar

Zelda is one of Reddits sacred cows. You can’t post any slop you want but as long as it’s got a Triforce it people go nuts. Nintendo could release a sack of gravel with Zelda branding and people would call it Game of the Year

  35. Magic_Man_Boobs Avatar

Not every game is for everyone. For example I understand why many people love games like Dark Souls, but they just aren’t my thing. That being said it sounds more like the setting and story of the game that you don’t like since the mechanics between OoT and BotW are so vastly different.

  36. lukewwilson Avatar

I’ve never liked them as much as everyone else and I think the series honestly peaked with the first game, to me it’s a great game since then it’s slowly gone downhill

  37. mikedtwenty Avatar

I’ve also not gotten into the Legend of Zelda games. The only one I ever finished was the first one on NES. There’s a lot of games that get super hyped that I don’t enjoy; the Witcher is a great example of that.

  38. CrasVox Avatar

Have you tried any 2d ones? Link to the Past especially? You mentioned from Ocarina, which for me that game is insanely overrated and hasn’t stood up well at all. The old 2d ones tho…..gaming perfection

  39. robstrosity Avatar

I’m a bit confused. You’ve played every Zelda since OoT and you don’t like any of them?

Why did you keep buying them?

  40. roibaird Avatar

I bought my wife breath of the wild and she hated it. Not everybody likes the same things.
