I live in the south. It’s hot af most of the time. I can not stand going in places where they have ceiling fans going, but set to turn backwards. So I’ve taken it upon myself to change the spin direction to push cold air whenever possible. Friend’s house? Yep. Family? Yep. Public places? Yep.
I don’t feel guilty at all. One day I will have succeeded at making all fans turn in the correct direction. Maybe then we can unlock the secrets of the universe.

You spent all summer doing that and now it’s Fall. Time to start switching them back.
But by the time you change them all it’ll be winter and you’ll have to go switch them all back.
that’s lowkey heroic 😂 you’re out here fighting the good fight one ceiling fan at a time
If they haven’t ever changed or cleaned them then there’s going the be a fuckin shit load of dust everywhere.
You’re my hero!
Which direction should they spin?
I need an ELI 5 on this. Mine all just always blow down. Live in SoCal.
that’s chaotic good energy tbh secretly fixing airflow so people just think the room magically feels cooler
Truly a victimless crime
I would immediately notice if you changed my atmosphere.
I am going to start making them go the opposite way..
Sounds like me and you are enemies now, pal.
Don’t let me catch up 🤫
The Lords work
i always change tp rolls to go over the top
you’re either ghandi or jesus!!!
The perfect crime… unless the owners don’t regularly dust the fan blades!
I wish you would visit my girlfriend’s house
I always forget, which way should it go when it’s hot and which way when it’s cold?
Is it different in the southern hemisphere or does that just apply to toilets?
Oh it’s really that simple? I surely hope so. You’re a hero. I won’t be able to update until next weekend when I see her next, but I will certainly be back to update.
What are the differences in spin direction?
If I look up at my ceiling fan, which direction should it spin?
Doing the lords work
You get on a stepladder and change the switch ?
Sometimes people post stuff like this and I think they have control issues or they’re trolls.
I think you…. Might be smarter than most people. I live in the north and I change my fans in the spring and autumn.
You’re doing them a service, cuz if you’re changing it to the actual correct direction for hot weather, they’ll be saving energy.
Do you ever stand on any small children to reach the fans?
Change the direction of the toilet paper while you’re at it.
You’re a hero.
Chaotic good energy at max level
You must document this travail.
You should know – https://bigassfans.com/press-releases/big-ass-fans-exposes-failings-reversing-ceiling-fans-winter/
I did not know about this until recently
Heroes don’t always wear a cape.
This is the most lowkey vigilante origin story I’ve ever read.
When are you doing Australia?
Yet you post on Reddit and still don’t tell us which way is the correct way.
I didn’t even know there was an option 😆
Imagine walking into a public place, fan mysteriously fixed… pure magic.
I do that with people’s toilet paper rolls. Paper goes front, down—don’t give me that “rear dispensing” technique!
You FIEND! Don’t you know that you’ll change the earth’s rotation by doing this!?!?!
😉
The hero we didn’t know we needed
What do we call this super hero?
Fanman? Super Fan? Fantastic Man?
What about ceiling fans with left and right switch’s? All i ever hear is people talking about up and down.
If you came to my house and switched one of my ceiling fans I would immediately notice. I think I have OCD. And I know I have excellent peripheral vision. I notice things without even looking at them. A fan spinning in the opposite direction than the last time I saw it would click instantly. I’m also obsessed with symmetry!
Not all heroes wear capes
Not all heroes wear capes
Not all heroes wear capes. You’re doing God’s work out here fighting the good fight.
So what you’re saying is you’re making the fan pull all the hot air off the ceiling and push it down?
This is the kind of petty world domination I can get behind.
Bless you! Just realized mine was backwards all sweltering summer.
We salute you 🫡
I lose my FUCKING mind at work lol. I work in property management in Florida, and I will get weekly calls about a house being hot. Just to get there, and they hit the reverse button on all the fans.
That all sounds great except for the
>without them knowing
part. Like, are people just leaving you alone in their house for extended periods of time?
I dont understand what the difference is.
I clicked this because I legit thought that from the title you uninstalled their ceiling fan, then reinstalled a new one. I can’t decide if I’m glad I was wrong or not. But I learned something new today, I had no idea changing directions on a ceiling fan was a thing!
Doing God’s work
i didn’t even know you could do that to a ceiling fan until a couple years ago when my room had one
I have literally no idea how to change a fans direction
I will join you on this journey.
Start a business doing that 😂
There is a reason for the switch. What a piece of work.
For my mental health, I really needed to know there was a ceiling-fan-switcher bandit out on the loose with no remorse terrorizing the south. May you find your way to my house because I didn’t know there was a specific fan direction protocol!
Me looking to see if you’re also a member of r/tall 😆
(I love this, btw.)
Is it same direction for all fans? Cuz I just moved and have no idea. If it’s up for cold or down?
Want to come to by my house? I never know what direction it’s supposed to go.
Dude you’re my hero, absolutely no lie
The gym I go to in Florida is one big room with probably 10 ceiling fans, one half of the room going clockwise, the other half going counterclockwise. Does that work to keep it cool?
I work in office furniture and I’ve set 100’s of clocks on microwaves without any fanfare. I get you
I need to put pillow case on my fan blades to clean, sometime. Maybe when football season is over😜
Honestly I’ve never changed my fans direction. They’re just always set to blow down. I let the thermostat control temperature. Fans are just off during the winter anyway.
NGL you’re doing God’s work. The backwards fan thing drives me absolutely insane too.
I’m gonna be honest, I have never seen a fan set to blow air towards the ceiling ever in my life unless I switch it to do so. They come set to blow from the factory, why are all of your friends and family switching them?
How do I lure you into my home to do this? It’s hard to reach.
Some men just want to watch the world burn
The hero we need. The hero we deserve!
Mine went clockwise but I felt cool air push down
I’ll be real, I’ve installed hundreds of fans over the years. I’m still not sure which way they’re meant to be spinning for which season.
It moves air either way, just down against the walls or down under the fan. It’s not like turning a heater off. Depending on the layout you might be making it worse.
But it helps dissipate the heat when the fan draws air up! (For the record I am just kidding but I have definitely heard this).
See also “if you eat hot soup on a hot day, you’ll get cooler because you’ll sweat more!” Sure, why don’t we turn on the oven too?
No, you people just love the freaking muggy heat and are probably the first to complain when the temperature inches down toward 75F. Stop gaslighting the rest of us
You are my kinda human
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?? Are all celling fans shape shifters?
I always want to feel the air from the fan, even during the winter. Would rather feel that over circulating air around the room.
Mine always blow down. In winter I slow them down as we don’t need the cooling breeze.
I did that for my neighbors a couple months before they moved, they’d been living there for years. Felt bad
Doing God’s work tbh. Nothing worse than a backwards fan making everything hotter.
My older aunts would set them backwards on purpose because they didn’t like direct wind and “that way it distributes the wind to the whole room”
Because of your comment I am going to start switching everyones fans backwards
Not all heroes wear capes. You’re doing God’s work out here fixing everyone’s basic life skills.
How do you DO IT THOUGH
For those who don’t know, You want the fan on low and the blades blowing the air up towards the ceiling in the winter so you don’t feel a breeze and get a chill. You do this to circulate the warm air around the room that gathers at the ceiling.
The switch on the fan is supposed to be changed as the seasons change so that it goes the other direction in the summer and blows a cool breeze downwards onto the inhabitants of the room when it’s hot.
I just spin my room the opposite direction around the fan..
I don’t have to change the blades that way.
I recently did the same for my parents and sister as well. Keep up the good work!
I do the same thing to people’s refrigerator doors that open in the wrong direction. Flip em around while they are distracted. Their lives are better for it.
I think most people don’t realise fans have two settings. Whatever setting it’s on when installed/moving in, it just stays on…
Haven’t studies shown this doesn’t actually make a difference?
The south of what?
I don’t subscribe to that silliness. The ceiling fan will turn over the air in a room in about 15 seconds running either direction, and it feels cooler when it is blowing down on you due to evaporation.
I did this once at a restaurant and it ended up flinging dust all over the dining room for several minutes. Oops
Next you should block fox news on their tvs
