I work as a cashier at a grocery store, and whenever a middle-aged woman, who clearly looks older than 21, buys alcohol from me, I purposely ask to see her ID. Deep down, I feel that by asking for their ID, it makes them appear younger than they are. I do this whenever I get the chance, no matter how busy the line is, hoping it will make them feel younger and maybe even a bit happier.

That’s very cute and sweet. In my experience, telling an older woman that she looks younger than she is makes them so happy ❤️
As a teenager, I took the opposite approach. I gave anyone who looked over 30 a senior discount because too many seniors forgot to ask for it before paying. It made my job easier and less awkward with the seniors, but let me tell you, the middle-aged women weren’t too happy about it.
“At the same time, you’re not wrong for asking—it’s part of your job to protect yourself.”
“A few years ago, my nearly 60-year-old mother went into the booze store while I was waiting in the car. She emerged 5 minutes later, enraged, to retrieve her ID. Said the guy was either “fucking patronizing, or not paying fucking attention””.
Women know what we look like; just let us have our substances in peace.”
I read this exact same post not long ago. And I’ll answer the same way: I’d be annoyed that you wasted my time. PS not all women need external validation from random dudes in grocery stores.
