i don’t care about illegal immigration

r/

i think it’s hilarious that a bunch of world superpowers think they can spend hundreds of years fucking other countries with colonisation, planned coups, destabilisation, slave trades, etc, and then start clutching their pearls in confusion when the people from those countries want to come over to the countries that have been spared from all of this negative interference. like yeah no shit? would you want to trade places with those people?

it makes perfect sense why people are immigrating. and the main reason so many immigrants are undocumented is because western countries make it as difficult as possible to immigrate legally, and because most “anti-immigration” people have the critical thinking ability of a spoon, they think “illegal=evil” without caring at all about the nuances of the situation. this kind of thinking is exactly why the U.S. has the highest prison recidivism rate IN THE WORLD. they don’t want to actually solve the issues that lead to crime, they just want to see the people they think are ‘bad’ suffering

i feel like it’s so obvious that “”immigrants”” are being posited as a scapegoat for everything wrong with society, just like they have been for hundreds of years by dozens of governments, and yet everyone is falling for it again.

Arguing with people on it is such a migraine it sends me into psychosis. “They’re criminals! They shouldn’t be allowed to live here” THE PRESIDENT HAS 34 FELONIES

It’s funny how “I don’t care” can sound rebellious at first, but usually it just means, “I hope someone else deals with the fallout.”

Hospitals don’t magically expand, schools don’t suddenly get more funding, and housing doesn’t become cheaper just because someone tweets about colonialism.

Every country enforces its borders — even the ones critics usually praise for being more “compassionate.” Funny how border laws are only evil when it’s America doing it.

Blaming history doesn’t fix the present either. By that logic, I guess if someone’s great-great-grandfather stole your great grandfather’s horse in 1802, you should be allowed to live in their house rent-free today.

Saying illegal immigration is fine because it’s “hard” is like saying robbing a bank is fine because it’s “risky.” Difficulty isn’t a moral defense.

And dragging prison conditions into a border discussion is like complaining about potholes while running every red light in town. Different problems, both still real.

You don’t have to be “brainwashed” to care about immigration laws — unless you think Mexico, Japan, and Canada are brainwashed too for enforcing their own.

It’s like leaving your front door wide open because you feel guilty about stealing a candy bar back in third grade.

    Noble in theory.
A disaster in practice. Some things sound deep if you don’t think about them too hard

immigration is good for genetic diversity so i agree idk why everyone hate it

You should, because they get privileges that native citizens can only dream about.

im super left leaning and overall pro the right to emigrate but being from a third world country that is been suffering the impacts of massive immigration for years has changed my perspective against my will

My father, with EVERYTHING GOING ON, still thinks Kamala Harris would have been a worse choice because we’d be “overrun with illegal immigrants”.

I cannot fathom the mental gymnastics he must be going through to get to that conclusion.

Its changed how I’ve looked at him.

BTW-he’s currently watching videos about the catholic church. He’s convinced he could be the one to unite the catholic and orthodox churches.

    It just boggles my mind.

I mean, you do care if you’re on here and seem to know a fair share about the subject.

But you’re right. The issue of immigration is really complicated, and the Republican Party has just simplified it to “they are what’s wrong with this nation”.

No immigration should be illegal. All this feels stupid

It astounds me how controversial the idea of free borders is. Especially in a country settled by people who currently could not legally immigrate here.

yeah I agree. Sweden was a colonial superpower who now deserves to have gangs bombing people on the streets. /s

I don’t think immigration is bad because it’s illegal. I think it’s bad because y’all tank our healthcare system, take all the minimum precautions jobs so no native youth coming out of highschool can get a job, and then take all the housing as well.

I feel like I have had almost exclusively positive experiences with immigrants, many of them friends, and they have added much value to our country despite not being appreciated or compensated appropriately, especially for blue collar jobs.

I’ve felt the same. In Australia it was all about the “boat people” aka. asylum seekers paying smugglers to sail them into Australia. It disgusted me to see people cheering when they are thrown overboard and/or drowned. I had NZ friends husband rant about illegal immigrants coming to Australia to make themselves rich. It was the height of hypocrisy since New Zealanders regularly travel to Australia to work the high paying mining jobs for a few years, then return to their country all the richer and he was here to do the same!

I’m also fed up with stupid people parroting that asylum seekers should follow procedures like it’s as simple as that. People being prosecuted and fleeing violence/death threats aren’t going to wait patiently until they are processed. They are desperate and scared for their families safety. Why else risk dangerous conditions for the chance on reaching Australian shores. They aren’t here for a comfy well paid job, it’s survival.

In the end the illegal immigrants that are painted as a burden on society are ethnicities that are considered undesirable. It never includes those from desirable nationalities that enter via a plane ticket with the intention of staying beyond their visa and settling. Though to be fair, the US is just going for any immigrants nowadays.

Even in Sweden where I reside now, public sentiment is that immigrants and asylum seekers are choosing Sweden for handouts. That by settling in Sweden, they’re diluting Swedish traditions, making Swedes uncomfortable to be themselves. Swedes can be rather xenophobic and are intolerant of immigrants choosing to keep their own cultural identity alive. The exceptions tend to be British, Americans, and Australians.

I tried talking with my Christian father about this and am horrified by his lack of care and compassion for these people. I showed him the story of the TWO YEAR OLD CITIZEN BEING DEPORTED, and he said, “I don’t know the background,” and I almost cried. He’s usually level-headed and intelligent, he DIDNT vote for trump and i dont think ever would, but still thinks illegal immigration is an issue.

When I bring up scripture that states to let strangers in, he deflects and says, “That doesn’t mean they don’t have to follow rules.” I am left speechless by the callousness of a man I respect.

It’s absolutely insane how republicans are constantly going on & on about how undocumented folks are all horrible criminals, meanwhile Trump is a convicted criminal with 34 felonies & was found liable for sexual abuse by a jury

People should be allowed to live wherever they want if they have no criminal record. If they do have a criminal record, they should have to apply

So then don’t complain about a lack of jobs, your paycheck being suppressed, a massive wait for any healthcare, overcrowded schools, and rent costs spiraling out of control and no place to live.

This is an interesting view tbh, I never liked immigration due to overpopulation and terror attacks in the country, but if you’re saying it that way, makes sense, the government might be doing it on purpose because bloodshed and diversity is the most profitable thing in this cruel world, yet at the same time, there are ones who come in and start terror attacks, it’s rlly hard to make a conclusion atm tho
