I don’t care for lyrics in a song

r/

I generally hate lyrics and listen to songs in various European languages because I like vocals as an “instrument” but hate understanding what they are actually saying.

Meaningful lyrics add nothing to the song for me and generally serve to distract from the song.

… unless it’s about battle or manliness or something. That is my exception. I will listen to Ensiferum songs with English lyrics all day long.

I don’t fully agree with you, but I’ve had similar thoughts before. Ariana Grande has an incredible voice and yet I can’t understand 95% of what she sings. But it sounds nice!

Then do you listen to classical music? Electronic? Songs from video games and films are often instrumental.

Odd but okay. Ah yes, Y.M.C.A., lyrically a masterpiece.

This is quite common. I might sing lyrics but most of the time i’m not putting them together and forming some deep meaning. I just sing it and bop to the beat.

What’s your opinion on a song like hey ya by OutKast? Meaningful, depressing lyrics, but most people don’t even realise cos it’s such a bop
