I just don’t get the Marilyn Monroe hype. Everyone (mostly Americans, to be honest) always thinks she was the most beautiful and sexiest woman ever, but I just don’t see it. Maybe it’s because I am not American and don’t have the same cultural attachment, but I think she was just your normal pretty. Before surgeries, she was actually quite average. Does anyone else think the same?

If she was the only pop idol I’d ever seen then sure she’d be up there but ….. I’ve seen Margot Robbie…. she isn’t in my top 5 blondes she might not make the top 10. But she IS/was very pretty
The beauty standards for women are insane, every other day there’s some post claiming that some gorgeous famous woman is “average”.
And if she’s not your cup of tea, so what? Like what is your point here
You had to be there. I wasn’t either though so I agree
Many people love the 50’s Americana nostalgia. Of which she was a huge part of.
She challenged beauty standards, she became an icon for body positivity around curvy figures over the prevailing standard of thinness.
Can’t agree, she was insanely beautiful as both Norma Jeane and Marilyn Monroe, in my eyes. (I’m not American either.)
Think of her as the Kim Kardashian of her time. No we don’t understand that either
Ideas of what is beautiful/attractive change over time. She was beautiful and attractive for her time, but doesn’t necessarily fit what we see as attractive now. Look at Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” it depicts the Renaissance ideal of feminine beauty, but most today wouldn’t agree.
It was a different time man. I can see what you mean but that was the “standard” back then
> Everyone (mostly Americans, to be honest) always thinks she was the most beautiful and sexiest woman ever,
Some people think she was one of the beautiful women , not “the most beautiful and sexier woman ever”. Her involvement with JFK probably made her more well known or popular however.
No one thinks she was the most beautiful woman ever. Not even the sexiest. What Americans are you talking to, 90 year olds?
She was iconic and brought sex appeal at a time when it wasn’t, at all, the norm. I agree that she is first and foremost an American beauty, pin-up style, but she has a charm that is undeniable.
I never saw the appeal, myself. But I do understand it. It was the same for men as well. They talk about how this male star was the hottest guy ever in his time, and no, no he wasn’t. He looked 65 and flabby when he was 22.
Marilyn compares better than that. But there were plenty of more attractive starlets at the time.
I think part of the appeal of her was that she presented as a vapid bimbo which made men feel powerful. Even though she was believed to be rather intelligent. But Marilyn Monroe was a character played by Norma Jean, and she played that character well enough to captivate people for generations.
She was a popular hot celebrity in the 50s who supposedly fucked JFK, you’re reading too far into it
It was a world before porn and instagram thots. You may only see 100 different women in your entire life in the 50’s-70’s if you didn’t live in a city, and youd be gobmacked by average. So seeing a woman like her would rock your shit back in the day
I agree that I don’t get it either. Though I wouldn’t call her average by any means. Maybe average compared to today’s models I guess.
But even for her time, I don’t think she was any hotter or sexier then any of the other famous starlets at the time. That’s where my confusion comes in.
Like what put her above her peers? Beats me
i think it’s her aura, she’s just iconic! she’s not ugly ofc she is beautiful but i guess nowadays we’re used to everyone fillered up to perfection on tiktok 💔
My sweet summerchild
She was more sensual than any other actress that I can think of. The physic, the voice, the way she carried herself.
The main thing is that she died young. We didn’t see her age. So she is always young and beautiful in our collective memories.
That’s why.
I agree. I never thought she was that hot or innovative. She was a socialite. It’s barely above sex work in my opinion.
The films weren’t that good either. The best two didn’t focus on her as the star (Some Like It Hot and The Seven Year Itch).
I also hate that she tried to steal jfk from his wife. Allegedly she called Jackie Kennedy her husband promised to marry her. Jackie refused to attend his birthday bc Marilyn would be present. When she died, Jackie made a statement “she was a disaster waiting to happen”. I know there’s speculation that Jackie cheated as well however jfk cheated all the time and that’s what bothered Jackie. That MM would go to the public about the affair between her and jfk. Jackie cared a lot about her reputation. (I don’t get why she would get ridiculed for something her husband did). I just don’t like MM went after a married man. Reminds me of Ariana Grande.
She is generally agreed to be the most gorgeous woman ever because she is the most gorgeous woman ever.
Have you watched her movies?
Its not only about how she looks. Its a lot about her voice and the way she speaks. Its so sensual. Hypnotizing. I mean, Im primarily gay and she is one of those few women that make me question.
I don’t get what’s your point. Ok, so she’s not your type of attractive. To so many it sure is. Does that mean they are wrong? Beauty standards for women are freaking insane and they change over time.
Honestly I didn’t think she was all that either. “She looks good in some well known pictures. Big deal. Everyone with a team of stylists and photographers can do that.” And yes, had plastic surgery.
But then I saw her in a few of her movies and I got of the buzz was all about. She really stood out next to her co-stars. It’s the way she moves and talks. It’s uniquely innocent and sexy at the same time.
