Coworkers that have this fake smile on all the time. Acting phony and talking to everyone like they’re best friends with them. Do you want employee of the month that badly? Are you running for mayor and you’re counting on everybody’s vote? Don’t walk up to me and act like we’ve been friends since childhood. I totally avoid people like this.

Redditor when people are happy: not on my watch
Maybe they just like people and their life.
So are they all insincere, or are you just a miserable bastard?
I totally get you. I think if the happiness is genuine that’s great, but a lot of people really do just perform joyful employee. I really resent people who are so institutionalised at work they can’t just be real for 5 minutes.
I’m pretty fucking cheerful most of the time. Just how I’m wired.
You sound jealous…
Toxic positivity
Anyone who tries to bring happy perky energy to me before lunch is my enemy
Agreed!!! it is annoying.
I guess most of you totally misunderstand the point, OP has no problem with happy, cheerful, content workers, rather the ones who ACT like they are, and feels forced and off, solely for trivial benefits or something like that.
Your title says “happy and perky”. Those people exist. But your message says “fake smile and phony”.
No one likes fake people. So your as described opinion isn’t unpopular.
But lots of people feel good around happy perky people, so your title opinion is unpopular.
No upvotes or down votes from me lol
It’s exhausting dealing with that forced energy all day. Some people thrive on being overly chipper but when it feels fake or performative, it can honestly drain the vibe for everyone else. A little authenticity goes a long way in the workplace.
Uh oh, sounds like you got a case of the Muhhhhndays!
ok….. what makes you think they are being fake? with what evidence?
Like, toxic positivity?
The overly happy are often masking hard. People who are happy aren’t trying to prove to the world how happy they are.
Honest question, how do you know it’s a fake smile? Have they acted any way different to you than they show to others?
Some people are naturally perky but that doesn’t make them fake.
100% agree , they make me wanna puke.
The comment section of this subreddit never fails to amaze. A lot of arrogance, assuming he is talking about being happy in general.
No he ain’t talking about people who are cheerful. He is talking about those who try too hard to get along with everybody and let me give you a corporate tip, those people are usually the first to stab you right in the back and are rarely liked by others at the office.
You want to be that overly-cheerful golden retriever with absolutely EVERYONE during work hours? Please fuck off and do it inside the soundproof phone boots. All by yourself.
Corporate people do this when they “visit”. 😒
Sounds like you’re miserable in the mornings and are projecting onto coworkers who genuinely like people. I don’t do it for accolades. I do it because I thrive off human interaction. I’m a morning person and I like to talk to folks. I’m up at an ungodly hour (I wake up at 1:30 am to be to work by 4 am) and I’m used to it; some people are miserable at that time. I would suggest switching to a later shift or finding a different job where you can work later in the day.
I personally appreciate someone who is cheerful in the mornings (especially in customer service professions). I can’t stand someone who is rude and demeaning just because they don’t like being up early. If your coworkers or customers annoy you in the mornings, maybe find a different job or meet with your higher-ups to see if you can work a later shift.
P.S. it’s not a fake smile. It’s genuine. Who are you to determine what is fake?
I f*cking hate reddit. I really do. Why can’t I just quit. “How dare you act civil and happy!!!”
They’re exhausting, aren’t they?
Who does come in at 7 and people are all full energy and I’m like no save that for after lunch or end of day when there’s a reason to be good
My sister is perpetually happy, kind, generous and friendly. She is the nice one lol.
What you perceive as “fake” can just be someone else’s life. Maybe it is you.
I feel like I do this because if I didn’t force myself to be enthusiastic I would be absolutely miserable. It’s a little bit of like fake it till you make it
Brotha would hate me lol
I’m sure some of my coworkers do
I feel personally attacked by this post.
Get medicated. Properly. Trust.
If you are miserable just just so
Ppl do have happy lives and like the ppl they work with. Maybe one day u get to experience that joy.
I’m confused. Your title says you don’t like happy people, but you go on to complain about fake people. Which one is it?
Being positive makes the day go by faster. We will figure out people who don’t feel that way and leave you alone. Don’t try to join the convo when we start taking about something that interests you. We will tell you to fuck off.
Glorified yappers, more visibility = promotion
Source: all bosses are busy and as a result, blind.
Are people genuinely this miserable?
Why do people always assume people are being fake. Why can’t people just be nice? Miserable people. If you hate working with people so much get a new job or work from home
Same, fake ass people.
The only reason I know these people is because I must generate income. Love the perpetually perky who crumble under the slightest adversity. Their true form shows. Glorious.
I like my job and I’m a pretty upbeat
person most days. Maybe one day that will be you.
I’m fine with people like this as long as they don’t open emails with “Happy Wednesday, Team…”
“I’m not miserable and sad, every single other person is faking being happy”
Someone hates raises and promotions…
