I don’t mind online forums shutting down

r/

Whenever I hear people talking about how the internet is getting worse and worse (which, in fairness, is true), they always lament the passing of “classic” online forums for advice on specific hobbies.
Maybe I missed the golden time of these websites, but for me, they never delivered on what they promised.
People either didn’t read your question and therefore gave answers that weren’t helpful at all or gave incredibly arrogant answers. Everything you did is wrong, every bit of equipment is way too cheap and you were clearly not a real enjoyer of the hobby.
And worst of all: When someone already asked a similar question, but just wrote “I fixed it” without providing any kind of explanation how.
Maybe I really wasn’t part of the good online forums, but I personally don’t miss them one bit.

Classic online forums for niches were all way better than subreddits have ever been.

I don’t know what kind of online forums you’re referring to but that doesn’t sound anything like older BBS style forums.
