I feel discriminated against for my religion

Location: New York
I’m located in New York. For context, I am a patient safety sitter at a hospital. I want to know what my rights are, if there are legal remedies in place for situations like these, and if I have grounds and sufficient evidence to sue. I plan on building my case as much as I can and saving up for a lawyer. I’m a Pagan and I wear my pentacle at work, it’s a religious symbol and I’m 99% sure that I have the right to wear it. It’s no different than wearing a cross, a Star of David, or a hijab. I had a patient ask about it, I told her it was a religious symbol. She said that it was a cult and that I was going to hell. I brushed it off because unfortunately I get it a lot. Eventually, she spit in my face. I called the police and pressed charges. I was called into my boss’s office later that week. I was later told that sitters are not allowed to call the police and we have to follow “proper procedures “ and notify security instead, and it is up to their discretion if they call the police or not, which I’m pretty sure is illegal because if I’m a victim of assault I should have every right to call the police. She also told me that I shouldn’t discuss religion with patients and she doesn’t disclose that she’s Catholic. It basically felt like a “you were asking for it” I recorded the whole conversation by the way, I just need to doctor the video and omit the patients first name. I plan on putting my two weeks notice in for that job. I plan on contacting HR and seeing what they have to say. I have been documenting everything. I took a picture of the police report, I plan to document any response I get from HR and asking them if I had a hijab or other religious symbol would they have handled it differently. There is also posted signage throughout the hospital that the hospital supports an employee’s right to contact law enforcement

They can’t stop you from calling police. But a hospital has a special duty to patients that makes for a complex situation. It is legal for them to have a policy that you call security.

You’re obviously gunning for a fight. And in theory your position that a pagan shouldn’t be treated different than a catholic or a jew is a sound one. This isn’t a big payout. There isn’t any obvious actionable thing done by the hospital thing here.

I think youre going to have a tough time claiming you’re a pagan since thats not a particular religion
