She was sobbing by the end, and asked me what I thought about the movie. I said, “It was good! Those actors sure have a lot of energy!” During the ride home, I talked about everything else but the movie. I feel so bad because it was my idea to go.

Don’t feel bad. Mom had a great time on her birthday and you didn’t. You took one for the team. Still a win.
Go to IMDB and read the reviews and synopsis. Then you can be more detailed if she asks. ☺️
Just watch it on Disney Plus.
Dude, no shame in snoozin’, but next time just be straight up, ya know? Lol, “Hamilton” ain’t everyone’s cup of tea, but bro, your mom’s feelings probably took the real hit. Just say it wasn’t your thing but you loved the time together. Honest vibes > fake hype, y’know what I’m sayin’? Taking the L on this one’s better than dodging it, fr fr.
It would not hurt to simply let it go, but if it really bothers you how about “You know, mom, when we went and saw Hamilton I actually fell asleep for part of the movie. I didn’t really know what was going on, but I was just happy to be spending your birthday with you.” You could even add a “Thanks!” and a kiss if your family are kissers.
It used to be your Mum’s sole focus to get you to sleep for a brief moment in time.
Just tell her. I’m willing to bet that she will have a reflective moment or two on the cosiness of the familiarity and the memories.
Don’t stress, you took the time to go to the movies with her and make her day special. Most of us don’t ask for much and it makes us very happy when someone listens, makes the effort and spends the time 🙂
I watched Hamilton with my undivided attention and it was VERY meh. I know we all like different things but I have a hard time understanding how people are so obsessed with a musical glorifying the founding fathers, indeed one who cheated on his wife with a married woman and then paid her off, all set to hip hop music. The music is pretty catchy, but not so good to be in tears or get a tattoo, have a bumper sticker, etc. Its decent at best.
I fall asleep in theaters frequently. Even through the really loud parts. Don’t fret about it.
Should have commented
“He really messed up with the move to Ferrari”
And
“Nico Rosberg is a knob”
Is this the same one that’s on Disney+ already?
You probably missed all the subtext.
The best nap I had was “watching” Star Wars (the one with Temuera Morrison in it) at the theaters.
My dad used to take my little sister to the movies everytime he came back from working away (he would work 6 weeks away and come home for 2 weeks). Everytime he took her he would be asleep before the previews were finished. She thought it was awesome, she could watch whatever she wanted and didn’t have to share the popcorn.
sometimes movies just hit people differently. The fact you took her out for her birthday already meant a lot
I fell asleep at the stage show of this.
I fall asleep at every movie in theaters. I don’t have the attention span to sit through it with no breaks. I hate how there’s no intermission so I can go regenerate
I remember falling asleep during Les Mis and having to do the same thing it’s okay lol
I think you’re the first person who hasn’t said Hamilton was some kind of profound life changing experience, and for that I thank you.
I saw “Swan Lake” at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, or I would have if I didn’t just fall asleep.
