I find burgers to be an absolute waste of time and ingredients

r/

I just don’t get it. The meat is never seasoned well enough, and all the other toppings seem like it’s just a battle of it sliding off every bite you take. The lack of sauce on many burgers I’ve had is disappointing as well- and yes you can say maybe I just haven’t had a properly made burger, but I’ve had people in my life determined to make the best burger for me and they still seem to fall flat in one way or the other. They just seem too generic to me. What ways could I spice up a more generic style burger to make it more appealing?

What are you doing to your burgers where the ingredients are sliding off every time you take a bite?

Stop crying and eat a double quarter pounder from McDonald’s

Mix in dry onion soup packet, add Worcestershire sauce and then dust with Tony Chachere’s before grilling them. Very tasty. In fact, I think I’ll make burgers for dinner lol.

Blend up a pepper and patty it into the burger. Whatever heat level you like.

    great, more burgers for me

    Take cooking lessons.

I disagree but I empathize since I know what you’re talking about. I think people understate just how finicky making a good burger can be. Cook needs to be right, fat ratio of patty, quality of ground beef in general, buns need to be good, toppings and patty need to be seasoned correctly, and what order you apply the toppings, condiments and patty matter. Also good browning on the patty is a must without overcooking it

But for me, an imperfect burger is still delicious. One of my favorite foods for sure, but yeah a decent amount of work and it’s fairly easy to mess em up in some way. I’m guessing these imperfections matter more to you than they do to me though

I’ve never seen someone consistently struggle to eat burgers. You’re living a comedy sketch.

Is this restaurant burgers, homemade, cooked at home from frozen or what?

  15. saleemkarim Avatar

Based on your preferences, I’d recommend eating a burger that is just meat, cheese, and buns. Use a bottle of sauce (A1, BBQ sauce, etc) to get as much as you want.

  16. Grelivan Avatar

You’re either cursed with bad taste or bad restaurants maybe both.   Yet you framed this as an i find them to be without trying to intrepret how others view them.  Well done have an upvote!

  17. anthonymakey Avatar

I season my burgers with onion seasoning. Like inside the patty when it’s a ball.

You can’t just put seasoning on top of it’s a pre-pressed patty

Also, less bread. I find open faced burgers better

People are making fun of you for the sliding toppings comment, but you’re right. I hate tomatoes so don’t put them on burgers, but I’ve watched many a person fight to keep a tomato on their sandwich.

Had a double bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top at Wolfgang Puck’s in the Las Vegas Airport….

    ……it changed my life.

  20. hallerz87 Avatar

The ingredients sliding out is a more of a skill issue. Best to keep the burger in the paper so only the side you’re eating is exposed. Doesn’t always work but makes a difference. Tbh a burger is one of my favourite things to order when eating out so I can’t really relate to your experience re: tastiness.

  21. dtor504 Avatar

When i was younger, i hated burgers. I had this same opinion, but at some point in my 20s that all changed. Burgers are very good to me now

  22. Pleasant_Garlic8088 Avatar

It’s trash food. Lower your expectations.

  23. Active-Rough4739 Avatar

you must’ve eaten the evil burger

  24. SnarkyFool Avatar

    Less is more.

Just cheese and maybe jalapeno or Serrano peppers for me. Light on the mustard.

Keep the lettuce and tomato. Onions are okay if they’re minced and cooked with the beef.

  25. Fancy_Environment133 Avatar

The only thing that makes a terrible hamburger is the transition to brioche buns. 😡

  26. Eyespop4866 Avatar

Beef. Onions. Salt and pepper. Yum.

  27. Not_Farmer_6004 Avatar

Burger with honey garlic sauce, caramelized onions, and a fried egg is my suggestion. And a good bun. Don’t get a cheap, generic bun.

  28. uSer_gnomes Avatar

I absolutely love burgers but I find myself disappointed for more often than not when eating out.

Many restaurants treat them as something that’s cheap and fast without putting any time or care into making them.

I believe that anything can be great if done well and too often it’s just not done well.

  29. Few_Profit826 Avatar

I fine you a waste of human lol don’t talk bout burgers like that

  30. Expansion79 Avatar

You are the problem, not burgers. Don’t bad mouth them. They can be whatever you want them to be! Like Tacos!

  31. JBCronic Avatar

This is just a bait post to make users mad. No one actually thinks like this.

  32. One_Recognition_4001 Avatar

If the ingredients are falling off when you bite into it that means you’re holding it wrong.

  33. stanger828 Avatar

We ground brisket trimmings and filet tips into burgers just the other day. You are missing out.

  34. Acrobatic-Ad-3335 Avatar

I love burgers when you mix the beef with liptons onion soup/ dip mix before you make the patties. If the sauces don’t stay where you put them, maybe try dipping the burger before you take a bite, like you would with a chicken finger. You have to know how well-done you usually like your meat. Personally, I like it a little bit pink.

  35. stillhatespoorppl Avatar

Upvote for a really unpopular opinion.

Toppings don’t slide off of well made burgers though. Either you are eating burgers with too much sauce or too many toppings which are unbalanced. Or possibly too small of a bun.

Either way, you need to get a real burger somewhere. I hate saying that because people tell me that about meatloaf and I laugh at them because I hate meatloaf but I feel like it applies to you in this case about your burger opinion.

  36. Key_Prize217 Avatar

Just out of curiosity what would you use high fat ground beef for that you think is better than a burger?

  37. Mildly_Twisted_ Avatar

if you don’t like them don’t eat them…. OR…watch a Gordon Ramsey video on making a burger. Granted his is pretty extreme, 2 types of meat 1 part cubed fat, put through a grinder, spiced up, an egg in the middle, fried, oven baked…. the dude knows his shit.

  38. Berim13 Avatar

I just saw today where Gordon Ramsay said he’d want an In-n-Out burger (animal style) for his last meal.

  39. Jezza-T Avatar

All I can think of after reading this is how much I now want a Juicy Lucy burger loaded to the max with various toppings. You get my up vote, definitely unpopular opinion.

  40. VibrantCanopy Avatar

You probably haven’t had a good burger. First sign of a good burger is a good bun and good sizing of ingredients; the ingredients shouldn’t be pushed out when you bite into it.

  41. XarCad3X Avatar

definitely unpopular. but OP, please go to a good burger joint and not mcdonald lmao

  42. kah43 Avatar

Never trust a person who doesn’t like a burger. Your opinion is a crime, but you get the upvote.

  43. Holymaryfullofshit7 Avatar

Don’t do it the American way. Mix seasoning into your burger like the Germans intended from the beginning. Problem solved.

But yeah it’s a generic food. But nothing wrong with simple standard food.

  44. SubstantialLion7926 Avatar

I went to a restaurant after Top Golf the other day, and my god am I not joking when I say it was the best burger I ever had. I think I had their own house sauce because it was just amazing. It was the cheapest thing on the menu and I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything.
